If taken care of properly, it should last a while for personal use. I usually start getting new towels and mitts after about a year. For detailing as a business, it will of course get worn out faster depending on how many cars a week you do.
I have used the same pair of Meguiar's MF wash mitt for over 2 years..
I still have 4 of that brand new never used so I can compare them.
the mitts I used for 2 years are still soft and white like new.

I just retired a lambs wool mit after about 5 years. It was starting to get pretty ragged.

My wash mitts last me a a while. I think it had been a couple years since I bought some. Recently they finally started to fall apart. My oldest mitt is probably 2 or 3 years old

I feel mitts last a long while if you're careful and avoid very dirty underpanels with them.
For grout sponges, I find you have to be quite gentle in handling them so they don't fall apart.
