Go check out the Rigid vacs at The Home Depot. Had mine for 10 years and it works great!

Richy did an awesome review on one he purchased a few months ago. I want to say it came from Harbor Frieght. I'll check to see if I can find the thread for you. It was a very nice looking unit, and it had great specs.

I hope the link posted, I've never tried to do it before.

I have a Ridgid WD4070 with the detailer's kit (nicer hose and a few extra nozzles).

It is rated for 5 HP with the suction spec'ed at 45-inches of lift (you have to ask to get this info). From what I recall the larger Ridgids have suction into 50's or 60's inches of lift.

It cleans fine (never use on just water) but suction is just so so with those smaller attachments. You can get an optional exhaust noise filter that does help some but the noise level is not high pitched so easier on the ears than some vacs.

I just bought this vacuum about a month ago and it is a huge upgrade compared to my 10 year old Genie shop vac that I was using.

Shop Shop-Vac 6-Gallon 3 Peak HP Wet/Dry Shop Vac at Lowes.com (http://www.lowes.com/pd_334639-20097-9330611_4294857472_4294937087_?productId=3326078&Ns=p_product_prd_lis_ord_nbr|0||p_product_quantity _sold|1&pl=1&currentURL=%2Fpl_Shop%2BVacuums_4294857472_4294937 087_%3FNs%3Dp_product_prd_lis_ord_nbr%7C0%7C%7Cp_p roduct_quantity_sold%7C1&facetInfo=)

Usually Lowes and HomeDepot annually drop the price on the big shop vacs, but unfortunately around the holidays. Either one should work well and give you years of service in a professional setting.

All the guys I know from my local detail shop avoid ShopVac (The brand). Apparently they don't make them as durable as they once used too. I get about a year out of them. Ridgid or Kobalt will be the way to go.

I just bought my second Kobalt vacuum from Lowe's and I love it. It comes with a remote on/off switch, 5 peak HP, 20 feet of hose, wall mount, and other accessories. Only thing is that it's a 5 gallon. If you want something bigger I would go with the Ridgid, the new ones are much quiter.

Not sure where people are getting their info about "shop vac." imply check consumer reports and dollar for dollar shop vac is much better then Ridgid. Lowes will have a 16 gallon shop vac for $49 starting this Thursday. It's typically $99. If you're concerned, by the lifetime replacement plan for $20 totalling $69

What about a metro vac? I tried one and it had amazing suction and it was super compact. Only downside is the price. Not sure how long they last though

Thank You! I might actually pick this it up, perfect for my needs. How is the suction on it? Its pretty much going to be used for car interior.

If you are asking about the Kobalt it has the same suction as my big Ridgid Vacuum since they are both 5 HP. As for the actual lift I am not sure but it’s darn impressive I’ll tell you that. If you go to the Lowe’s website and find the vacuum there is a video for it. It is well worth the price tag and the remote comes in handy! :xyxthumbs:
