Paint Defect

Wasn't sure what topic to put this thread under but I was doing one of my friends car today an I noticed that they had what almost looked like large, I'm gonna say alot like chicken pox scars, in the paint

Never seen this before, and they have depth to them as well, not like water spots I've seen or anything. I'll upload pics soon

Just went to go take pics but there's dust and dog hair all over it. So no pics yet.

But there like finger tip sizes inverse plateaus in the paint with water spot shapes edges if that clarifies at all

Wondering if it's just bad old paint

That's bird poop etching, most likely.

must of gotten attacked by a mosh of birds after mexican then lol

These are on the hatch, and i cant tell u how hard it was to get the pics of them lol took forever

u can see it best right around where the black and white garage door reflection meets on the car

Yeah, chicken pox scars...there's one consolation, it can't get chicken pox again.

Those marks are from various things getting on the paint (bird poop, tree sap, hot dog relish) and not getting cleaned off, resulting in those etch marks. Reasons to wash your car frequently. Or it could just be a crappy repaint that didn't flow out right or got fingertip inverse plateaus in it before it was cured.

it was like that after a buff job, after we bought it but wasnt like that before, guess just couldnt tell before hand due to shitty care taking

Yeah, when you don't wash often, you don't notice the stuff on there that causes the etching, and then after you wash it, the whole surface looks crappy and you don't really notice it until you polish it up nice and then you see the craters...sometimes polishing will improve them but sometimes it's too deep...there are cases where it's best to only look at the car from 10' away--I bet it looks great then!

And ya what my dad says he's like just step back and look at it as a non perfectionist, it looks good it's a rx7 people are gonna love it either way so don't worry too much. Haha and it your right from 3 foot back it looks perfect that's the only paint defect :/ lol
