I was at a car show a couple weeks ago and won a 3M quick connect buffing pad kit. Came with the Quick Connect adapter, 4 different pads, and an apron. I only have a PC 7424XP, and the adapter appears to be designed for a rotary. Is there a special adapter out there that I can use on my PC so I can use this system? Everything in the kit seems REALLY NICE and I want to try it out!

This is the adapter that came in the kit
3M Quick Release Adaptor, 3M adapter for double sided pads, (http://www.autogeek.net/3m-quick-release-adapter.html)

Thanks!

Congrats on the win!

I'll guess the buffing pads are 8" in diameter?

If so, they're too large to use on a PC 7424XP and there's no adapter I know of that will adapter a 5/8" ID to a 5/16" OD, one might exist but it's really not the direction to go with your PC and trying to buff out cars.

Instead, consider adding a rotary buffer to your tool collection.

Here's a thread I wrote that has lots of pictures of this adapter.

There's a similar adapter for the PC to use The Edge 6" Double Side Pads...

The Edge Dual Action 6 Inch Kit includes The Edge 2000 DuraFoam Pads & a dual action Edge Adapter. edge foam pads, double side pads, polishing pads (http://www.autogeek.net/foam-polishing-kit.html)

thanks for the reply mike! :props:
its not the answer I was looking for, but was the answer I was expecting LOL

I know what to ask for for my b-day/christmas....Ill just have to wait to try these pads out. They do seem really nice, and looking at the individual prices it appears I made out pretty good for buying a $2 raffle ticket :buffing:

I will gladly trade you a DA adapter for that Rotary adapter.

About an hour ago I actually used the Edge Adapter and System 2000 foam pads to buff out a vehicle and one of the things I wanted to test was if I could get the pad to stop spinning on a Porter Cable 7424XP with firm pressure and the answer was "no".

While the pad is thick overall, it's only the foam between the face of backing plate pointed towards the paint and the working face of the pad that has an affect and it's 7/8 of an inch, same as all the other thin foam pads we carry.

well, I actually just happened to have the adapter I was looking for laying around with a headlight pad kit I purchased a few months ago......NOT a good idea to try these pads out with the PC :bash:
