Ive been using LC flat pads, 5.5inch on my griots DA. I have gotten good results, but all the pads after 1-2 uses start to tear from the backing. I use 2-3 per car as I try not to let them get too hot as I have heard that contributes to the early death of these pads. I would like to find a pad with more cut that I could use with 105, typically the fleet vehicles I work on have extreme paint transfer, oxidation and neglect. So I have two questions...

How can I extend the life of, or get the proper life out of the LC flat pads. They should most definitely be good for more then 1-2 uses. I use 105 and polish on 6. I also wash them after with APC and let them soak then rinse well and air dry, exactly like Mike does it in his new article.

Second is, I want more cut, I would like to stick to m105 as I have had great success and I want to stick with the rotary. I have tried the surbuf pads and did not get great results. I would like to try wool, any links to which one I should use? Its a bit confusing on which are right for my DA. I was looking at something like this... Lambswool 6 Inch Leveling Pad (1) (http://www.autogeek.net/lc77216.html) Thanks!

Speed 6 on the GGDA will cook foam pads rather quickly IME and I have yet to see the need for more than speed 5 on that DA. I tried it at 6 once and I could literally smell the foam melting as it was getting so hot in the center and it actually caved in. So staying at speed 5 or below should extend pad life considerably.

The new MF pads will be a good option.

Maybe I misunderstood you post but did you use the Surbuf on the rotary?

No I used them on the DA. Thanks for the info and I will keep it at 5 and see if that is what the problem is. Do you have any experience with the wool pads such as the one I linked?

Agreed. I think 6 is too much. I usually compound on speed 5 with foam and 105.

If I stick to compounding at 5, and using a terry cloth to quick clean the pad between panels, 1-2 pads per car should be sufficient? Any other tips on keeping the heat down?

Not on the DA. I only use wool pads on the rotary. On the DA you best bet for maximum cut will be either Surbuf or MF pads....keeping in mind that they will need 1 or 2 proceeding steps to finish down well.

Mind if I ask what you didn't like about the Surbuf?

So shall I give the Megs DA cutting pads a shot with some m105?

The new Meguiars DA microfiber system (http://www.autogeek.net/meguiars-da-microfiber-system.html) works very well on most paints. The MF cutting pads work excellent with both D300 compound and M105. The D300 has a little less cut than M105 but is very easy to use.

Here is a quick video of the results it's capable of...

+1 on Buff and Shine. I've gotten similar results to LC pads and they're much cheaper.

I just couldn't get the kind of cut out of them as I was getting with the LC yellow pads. I think I will try the Megs MF pads and some D300.

One more questions about the Megs MF pads. They say use their 6" pad on Griots garage 6" backing plate, does this leave ample room around the edges? Ive always used 5.5" pad on a 5" backing plate but the MF system doesn't have a 5.5" pad.

Meguiars DA Microfiber Correction System 5 Inch Starter Kit, paint correction kit, dual action polishing kit (http://www.autogeek.net/da-microfiber-starter-kit-5in.html)

These will work on a 5" packing plate..they are actually a little over 5.5".
