This interior detail goes back a couple of months, it's actually the first job we got to use our McCulloch Steamer on...not your big bad unit but it sure came in handy (as it always has since we've owned it).

This was an 05' Sienna a guy contacted us about who had found us online. Just did a simple wash on the outside but it was a full out interior. We figured hey...we'd done this plenty of times before, would be just another job.......thats what we thought......

It was a nice day...warm outside and seemed like any other beautiful Az day.....but then it happened....the wife opened up the garage door.....and we saw something that struck fear into our hearts and left us wide eyed and mouths opened...

http://www.autogeekonline.net/gallery/data/1168/Bikes.JPG

Yes, thats right....bikes....kids bikes.....lots and lots of little kids bikes. We started to anticipate what we were in store for now...she pulled out the mini van for us...and then the adventurous exploration of the unknown began...

We did the wash first...which was relatively simple and routine....and then popped open the back....there were a few little surprises waiting for us

http://www.autogeekonline.net/gallery/data/1168/Back_Of_Seats_Before.JPG

On the left on the wheel well area we had a nice soda spill...looked like most of the can actually....and on the right...that little yellow speck...well that was a crayon box....yes...the whole box.....and they had managed to, with their magical little children powers...get it wedged UNDERNEATH the brace for the seat...its just a plastic covering you see there...under it is a metal bar...

Here is a closer look at our soda stain...along with the bail of hay that was back there

http://www.autogeekonline.net/gallery/data/1168/Back_Hatch_Before2.JPG

Here is our little crayon buddy stuck in nice and tight...and i mean TIGHT...i almost broke about 4 fingers trying to get this thing outta there...i guess we should be grateful that they didn't MELT yet in the Az heat!

http://www.autogeekonline.net/gallery/data/1168/Back_Hatch_Before_2_.JPG

It took some doing but...the crayons got removed...along with the scare crow from the wizard of oz...and the Pepsi ad gone wrong was taken care of also....

http://www.autogeekonline.net/gallery/data/1168/Back_Hatch_Finished2.JPG

http://www.autogeekonline.net/gallery/data/1168/Back_of_Seats_Finished.JPG:dblthumb2:

http://www.autogeekonline.net/gallery/data/1168/Back_Of_Seats_Finished_2_.JPG

This however wasn't the only surprise we had in store...you see...the garage itself was booby trapped! The entrance to the garage was raised about 1 1/2"...JUST enough to catch the toe of your shoe almost EVERY freakin' time you walk into the garage....

http://www.autogeekonline.net/gallery/data/1168/Ledge.JPG

You can't see it, but that concrete stamp says 'enter at your own risk!'
The final count was something like garage ledge 52....us 5 (the number of times we remembered to step OVER it)....good news...no broken bones:dblthumb2:

The second part of our adventure was to go through the sliding door of doom...we didn't even get PAST the door when we found this little mess

http://www.autogeekonline.net/gallery/data/1168/Passenger_Mid_Runner_Before.JPG

I guess we should have expected something when the wife asked that we be sure to 'vacuum and clean out the tracks as well'...which we were going to anyway of course but...how do you get that much stuff in the TRACK? Well whatever the case...they did...

Then, looking further along the bridge of no return this is the view that we had..

http://www.autogeekonline.net/gallery/data/1168/Passenger_Mid_Before_3_.JPG

I should note this was AFTER the initial vacuum...there was even more crud in there...the rest of what you see are things pulled out from seats and from under seats....Now an interesting thing about these little mini vans is...you see those plastic pieces around the areas where the seats lock into the floor....well those little gaps in those plastic pieces lead to small holes, just big enough for things like cereal and candy and other goodies lovely little children would indulge in...

http://www.autogeekonline.net/gallery/data/1168/Mid_Row_Between_Before.JPG

So thus...you have now seen the bridge of no return...so we pulled out our shop vac....little green extractor...apc and apc+ (i guess those would be our 6 guns?) and our new ace in the hole...our steamer...and got to work...

The spot you see remaining here was actually some sort of a rust spot on one of the pieces of metal...the rest of it...well we performed a little exorcism

Be gone!

http://www.autogeekonline.net/gallery/data/1168/Mid_Row_Finished.JPG

Now that it was safe to enter....we were able to pull out some more of the little minions and take care of them as well

http://www.autogeekonline.net/gallery/data/1168/Mats_Before.JPG

http://www.autogeekonline.net/gallery/data/1168/Mats_Finished.JPG

The husband came out later and said 'so hey is that as good as those mats are going to come out?'......I twitched.... but my sis stepped on my toe so i didn't get out of hand...and explained we'd go over them once more before putting them back...

http://www.autogeekonline.net/gallery/data/1168/Driver_Mat_Before.JPG

"Is that as good as they're gonna come" he says...really?....really?

http://www.autogeekonline.net/gallery/data/1168/Driver_Mat_Finished.JPG

Maybe i should have just showed him the dirty water in the extractor and said "dirty water"...I dont know..was just a thought

Upon completely entering the Sienna of Sin...we found another joy that the little lovely's had left us

Aren't children WONDERFULLL!?

*sings* If there's something gooey, in your neighborhood - who ya gonna call? Goop Busters! (If you haven't seen ghost busters youtube it!)

http://www.autogeekonline.net/gallery/data/1168/Door_Cupholder_Finished.JPG

After traveling all the way to the back of the cave...erm..uh....van....here is what we found

http://www.autogeekonline.net/gallery/data/1168/Back_Seat_Left_Before.JPG

These were suppose to be gray! I know this because the interior tag said GRAY! (ok not really but you get my point)

Steamer time!

Finally we were onto the road that approached the head of the beats (the drivers seat) but first...we had to deal with the Queen of Crud...

Well done Will. If you can laugh about it, the damage to your psyche shouldn't be permanent.

How did you get the cupholders? I haven't found a brush I like yet, nor have I sprung for a steamer to handle the sugary gummy stuff.

I believe my sis sprayed it with APC...then used the steamer to loosen it up and then wiped it out with a MF cloth. You know next time you're at home depot or some sort of place that carries paint..check out that area...they have some good brushes in there...also even if you just get an old or cheap paint brush...and clip the bristles kinda short...so they are stronger....it works great for tight areas like that...as well as engines (of course have 2 separate, one for engine one for interiors):dblthumb2:

So you took on this interior job without seeing it first? Bet that's the last time you do that. It turned out very well considering that's as good as the mats are gonna come out:D

Seriously incredible work on an acre of carpet, upholstery, and plastic done in by a herd of munchkins.

Yeah we did, the only reason was because we had just started advertising with this website that is kinda like yelp.com and we really wanted to lock in the job...in the end he tipped and wrote up a nice review on us so it paid off...I don't regret it at all...work is work...but I do insist on seeing jobs as a rule of thumb, this was just an exception and it paid off...we've gotta other jobs from that site since then :props:

a paint brush, one of those from home depot or you can use the "art" kind. i got a set of different sizes for $5 :xyxthumbs:

o and PS, try folex on carpets. saturate, let it sit for a bit, agitate and extract. works VERY well :P

Wow...10 kids..and you lived to tell about it...that must have been insane. I've had 3 rough ones...this one...one where the guy was rebuilding the engine...and stored all the removed parts IN the durango (drive shaft and all)...and this last one we did was a contractors truck...paint galore ...house paint that is...all over the body...that was probably the worst one for EXTERIOR...interior was pretty rough also.

Yeah those work good...but the steamer has multiple brush attachments we have been using for interiors with good luck...still use the paint brush for engines though...and ive used folex also....and yeah its good stuff...i THINK i may have used it on this one...either that or i had just run out the detail before and stuck with APC+ and oxyclean on this one...can't quite remember.

haha.... i think this thread will be getting comments like that for a while :)...and yeah i think it was CLOSE to the dirtiest he could get, but I was scared to ask. Thanks for the complements :dblthumb2:

Glad you enjoyed the read :) Yes we used the Bissell 'Little Green' extractor for the maps and carpets. I would use it on the seats but it doesn't really PULL all the water out like i would like it to, its just not strong enough...so you really have to soak the seats in order to have enough water to actually pull out the dirt...but then that leaves the seats wet, so thats why i prefer to steam cloth seats. For floors and mats though, i love it. Its like $100 new at wally world but you can find them used on amazon and c.list and things like that.
We got ours at goodwill for like $12 lol...the heater is broken but everything else works fine.

If you don't have an extractor, and also dont have $300+ to spend on a pro grade one...this is a nice intermediate one...kinda like our McCulloch steamer...not the pro grade but...with a little extra elbow grease...it does the job.

I also should mention we used the PC Brush Attachment which is a huge time saver (and arm saver)...its worth investing in for the $10 or $13 dollars:dblthumb2:
