FWIW.....

I applied Opti Coat (OC)on 1 of my rims as a test before I applied it to the other rims. The OC was applied 1 month ago to the lip of the rim which is polished aluminum. Sorry no pics from then, but it looked like, well, polished aluminum....

The OC kept the rim shiny, easy to clean and didn't haze when it rained- Awesome.

Well, recently water from the hose dried on the rim's lips and I got this:

I tried Poli Seal- didn't do much

Optimum Metal Polish (last version)- A little better but still some
water spots remained

It took Adam's Metal Polish #2 to get this:

Is the OC still on there? Did the metal polish remove it?:dunno:

After polishing I did give it an IPA wipe down, and several mineral spirits wipe down then sprayed with distilled water mixed with ONR- wash strength:

After polish:

After IPA/ MS wipe downs:

I guess next time it rains or I wash it I'll be able to tell if it's still on there....

Thanks for looking

After metal polish it's gone.

Thanks for the thread. Was thinking about coating chrome with it. Gonna go to optimum forum and research that use.

Hey no problem Corey, tryin to give back man

I'm thinking it's gone too... but from what I can tell it's holding up great on my chrome parts- front bumper, rear bumper and exhaust tip- the exhaust tip is where it's proving itself on chrome so far for me

When you polished with the metal polish, did it turn black? If so, i'd say you were then to the aluminum and the coating was gone. This gets me sad as I have wheels with a similar lip on them and they are such a pain to try t keep polished and nice. Was hoping the Opti-Coat would make them like they were clear coated :(

Yea it turned black & yes they can be a pain to keep polished but look outstanding when they are lol.

OC kept it shiny thru multiple rains and washes, something that wasn't happening with a regular sealant- if it wasn't spotting, it was hazing.

These coatings aren't 'bullett proof' and I messed up by letting tap water dry on it in the sun.

I polished all four wheels yesterday and OC'd 'em-
Round 2....:bat:
:D

Thanks
