Hello and Welcome to Project Type S

This is my buddy Dave's 2004 RSX in Artic Blue Pearl. A very nice color but the car has never been properly detailed. So I told him we could do the job! This was his first time using a DA and we used the Megs Microfiber system with compound and then Wolfgang Finishing Glaze as the finish polish. I was pretty impressed and Dave picked it up really quickly. Overall, I know I had a ton of fun and I was suprised how well the D300 finished down. I know Honda/Acura paint was soft, and it showed as this car was super easy to correct. Total time was about 10 hours. All Pics were taken with Cell Phone cameras so I apologize for lack of quality. Here is what we used.

CG Citrus Wash and Gloss in Foam Cannon
Wash with CG Citrus Wash and Gloss with 2 bucket method with grit guards
Clay with Mother's Clay Bar
Megs D300 via DA and Flex with Microfiber cutting pad
Wolfgang Finishing Glaze via DA and Flex with Microfiber finishing pad
Sealed with Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant
Plenty of Microfiber towels
DP Tire Gel
DP Wheel Cleaner
Poor Boys APC

I always begin with the wheels, so we hit them with some wash solution and got going
So here we are letting the wheels soak in some Wheel Cleaner. I hit the tires with some APC and scrubbed them good. Dave handled the spokes.

Overall, I think they came out pretty nice and I know Dave was happy with them!

Now it's on to the paint! The Paint wasn't too bad, but there were water spots all over the place, swirls, and some deep RIDS. One in particular was from the sunroof wind deflector. We'll come back to that one later.

So you get the idea. The paint isn't terrible but definitely needs to be refreshed. A bit of oxidation as well. But hey, it's 7 years old.

To be continued......

Here we are on to the wash. This was my second time using the foam cannon. I really love this thing and was definitely getting the hang of it. I was having a lot of fun washing this thing.....

OK....Maybe I was having a little too much fun washing the car....LOL

Hitting those wheels and tires again...as well as the wheel wells! No such thing as too clean!

So after a really good bath we clayed the car and hit it with some quick detailer to remove any clay residue. We got her inside and started taping. Dave did a pretty good job with the tape up. I hate taping, but it saves time in the long run. Now we can really see the condition of the paint. Not for nothing, they don't call this stuff wash and gloss for nothing.

This is thanks to the sunroof wind deflector. This was definitely deep. I don't think it's coming out without wet sanding, but we can try to improve it as best as we can.

Here is another deep scratch that we can try to improve on

Dave's finishing taping up and we are almost ready to polish....

So Dave and I did a test spot on the hood. Dave used my Griots DA and I used the Flex. I know some of you guys don't like the Flex with the Microfiber system, but I found it finished down very well. I adjusted the speeds to about 3.5 for correction and it worked so I stuck with it. Didn't want Dave handling the Flex on his first go. The hood started looking pretty descent so we tackled the rest of the car.

http://www.autogeekonline.net/gallery/data/500/medium/2011-05-22_12_21_57.jpg

http://www.autogeekonline.net/gallery/data/500/medium/2011-05-22_12_22_02.jpg

It's like a blue mirror....look Dave can see himself!

http://www.autogeekonline.net/gallery/data/500/medium/2011-05-22_12_39_07.jpg

Talk about DOI ( Distinction of Image ) I can see a whole lot in the paint and the depth and color are really starting to come alive.

http://www.autogeekonline.net/gallery/data/500/medium/2011-05-22_13_00_15.jpg

I knew I dropped my conditioning brush....good thing I found it in the mirror. Shortly after this I found out that Dave had a compressed air setup....so we used that to clean the pads. Worked much faster and safer!

http://www.autogeekonline.net/gallery/data/500/medium/2011-05-22_13_00_26.jpg

http://www.autogeekonline.net/gallery/data/500/medium/2011-05-22_13_14_54.jpg

Here's a scratch I was working on. It's diagonal to my finger...it's hard to see, but I think I got it in the second pic...as its going across my hand and cell holder.

http://www.autogeekonline.net/gallery/data/500/medium/2011-05-22_13_19_59.jpg

http://www.autogeekonline.net/gallery/data/500/medium/2011-05-22_13_20_49.jpg

Now you see....now you don't!

http://www.autogeekonline.net/gallery/data/500/medium/2011-05-22_13_20_551.jpg

http://www.autogeekonline.net/gallery/data/500/medium/2011-05-22_13_00_26.jpg

I can see why they call it Blue Pearl!

http://www.autogeekonline.net/gallery/data/500/medium/2011-05-22_14_17_33.jpg

So that sunroof wind deflector scratch won't come out....but we can definitely make it look better.

http://www.autogeekonline.net/gallery/data/500/medium/2011-05-22_14_30_06.jpg

Let's see how Dave is doing on his side!

http://www.autogeekonline.net/gallery/data/500/medium/2011-05-22_14_30_14.jpg

Not Bad at all Dave! Good Job! You are definitely showing that rookies can handle the Megs Microfiber system and you are certainly proving your Adonis DNA and Tiger Blood! To sum it up....I think it's safe to say Dave is WINNING!

http://www.autogeekonline.net/gallery/data/500/medium/2011-05-22_14_53_38.jpg

That nasty scratch in the back got a little better....and who's nice looking car is that in the reflection?

http://www.autogeekonline.net/gallery/data/500/medium/2011-05-22_15_41_25.jpghttp://www.autogeekonline.net/gallery/data/500/medium/2011-05-22_15_41_45.jpg

So there is a slight haze left in the paint. We will certainly clear that up with final polishing.

To be continued.....

I didn't want to use the finishing wax in the next step because I really wanted the Deep Gloss Paint Sealant to bond to the paint without any problems. I know Megs states there isn't, but I wanted to try the Wolfgang Finishing Glaze with the system. I think its safe to say it worked out pretty well.

http://www.autogeekonline.net/gallery/data/500/medium/2011-05-22_16_11_46.jpg

Man this is coming out SMOOOOOOTTTTHHHHH!!!!!

http://www.autogeekonline.net/gallery/data/500/medium/2011-05-22_16_47_11.jpg

At this point....Dave started getting tired! I wanted to top the finishing polish with a Glaze to see if we can hide some of the deeper scratches that we couldn't get out. But my buddy wimped out on me and said he was getting tired and wanted to relax. So I did a quick waterless wash and applied the Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant while he tackled the windows. I then dressed the tires while the Sealant was curing. Here is the final pics. No sun shots because New Jersey has traded places with Seattle and it was misting most of the day. Luckily it wasn't when we rolled her out.

Get out there and do it man! I have to highly recommend the new Megs Microfiber DA system. If you have it, it will be a definite winner on the paint system. I know they differ year to year, but I know Honda/Acura stays pretty soft! Post some results when you get er done!

Nice job! Fantastic write-up also. That car looks amazing! :xyxthumbs:

Thank you Sir! I was inspired by some of the great Show and Shine threads around here....just tried to add my bit of humor to it.

Great job.
Car looks new again.

If you don't mind me asking what speed were you using the MF system on flex?

Thank you! I don't mind at all. I used speed 3.5 on the Flex. I know a regular DA is supposed to be at speed 4.5 to 4 to correct with the MF system. So I bumped it down to 3.5 and got good correction. It also finished down really nice, so I stuck with it. The forced rotation was key around the tighter angles and didn't have to worry about the pad spinning. Good Luck!
