This weekend my mother brought by her new boyfriend's Vette for me to detail. She was surprising him since he's been doing a lot of work for her around her house.

The car has been repainted once and who ever did the paint job didn't do a very good job. The clear coat is failing in some spots and peeling in others. Also some flex marks in the front bumper.

This car was not in line for any polishing. Just a clean up, clay, and wax.

Products Used:

DP Xtreme Foam & Dawn mixture (2oz DP, about 1oz Dawn)
CG Green Clean APC - About 5oz for 2 gallons of water - this is what goes in my wheel bucket and used to clean the wheels
SuperClean Degreaser - Diluted 5:1 for tires, calipers, wheel wells
1Z cockpit premium
Poorboys Leather Scent
LeatherMasters Leather cleaner and conditioner/protectant
DP Krystal Vision glass cleaner
DP Plex-All for gauge cluster
RaggTopp Vinyl/Fabric Cleaner
RaggTopp Vinyl/Fabric Protectant
Iron-X
DP Clay
ONR Diluted to Clay Lube
Collinite 845
P21s metal polish - Exhaust only - the wheels were in rough shape and seemed to be starting to flake so I did not want to get too aggressive with them.
WG Black Diamond Tire gel

Equipment Used:

Three 5 gallon buckets - 2 with grit guards for the paint, 3rd bucket for the wheels, wheel wells
Powermate Pressure Washer
Various MFs
Various Brushes - Daytona wheel brush, both large and small, boars hair brushes, etc
PC7424
LC CCS Flat red pad
Yellow Pinnacle applicator
2 Sheep skin wash mitts

As the car arrived

Iron-X doing it's thing. This was the first time I used Iron-X and I was rather impressed. The paint felt pretty rough, which is why I decided to give the Iron-X a try. It made claying much easier. The smell is really strong, so I ended up wearing a mask when I applied it. Didn't want to be breathing it in.

I did get to take this car for a ride before I detailed it. It was the first Vette I've driven and man was it FUN!

Thanks for reading!

:laughing::applause: That was good! It's funny that you say that cause that's all I could think about when I was detailing it.

Jason,

I like it when someone takes care of America's first sports car. Ever since the Corvette came on the scene in 1953 the legend was born and is still alive and well...

So what are you doing with my Corvette??

I'm particularly intrigued / impressed with that Iron-X product you used. While I initially snubbed my nose at it thinking it was more gimmick than anything, I now must second guess that decision after seeing it work yet again.

Another fantastic example of skill and great products at work! :props:

Thanks Bobby! Take good care of my mom now! lol jk.

I also had my doubts about the Iron-X product and figured it was just another new product out there. But it really does seems to cut down on the amount of contaminates that are in the paint and really makes claying a breeze. After seeing it work and feeling the paint after it really does make a difference.

My next really contaminated car I get I'm going to do a side by side comparison of claying after Iron-X and without it. Just to really show the difference it can make.
