Retirement Calculator

The Budget thread reminded me of something I did a couple years ago. It's an Excel spreadsheet that I whipped up to figure out retirement savings. I think it helps a lot as a motivator because it will show you how much you can have if you start early and keep with it. It's not extremely detailed, but you can put in your age, how much you plan to save each year, and the inflation rate. Then you also put in your target retirement age, and how much money you want to have each year in today's dollars. Then it will calculate how much money you will have at retirement, and roughly how long that money will last (though it doesn't take into account saving/investing during retirement).

just type "retirement calculator" into google, and about 10 dozen will appear. Some are quite detailed while others suck !

It's never to early to think about retirement and start putting some money aside for it.
