Meguiar's Boat/RV Polish

I would greatly appreciate it if you could tell me what Meguiar's Boat/RV Polish is doing to the gel coat and what duration I can expect the polish to last before needing to reapply. I am using a polymer sealant as a top coat.

Hi Eric,

Thanks for taking this to the forum, behind the scenes there's so much going on it's hard to get time on the forum this week so anything I do work on it's better if others can chime in also.

Specifically, the M45 Boat/RV polish is what Meguiar's calls a non-abrasive, pure polish. Meguiar's is actually one of the few companies that makes non-abrasive, pure polishes as most either have,


Abrasives of some type
Protection ingredients of some type

M45 has neither of the above, it's a water-soluble pure polish for maximizing gloss, richness of color, depth and reflectivity. Of course these characteristics are better seen on dark colors than on white like many boats are colored.

The idea behind this product is AFTER all the compounding and polishing is done with the abrasive compounds and polishes, then you would use this product to gorge a gel-coat finish with the polishing oils unique to the Meguiar's line since 1901 and after applying this product then seal the surface with something that's not water-soluble, i.e. a wax or sealant.

M45 would be in the same category as #3, #5, #7, #81 and Deep Crystal in their Consumer Line, these are all non-abrasive pure polishes.


One of the problems in the detailing industry, including Marine watercraft is that there are no "Wax Police" and by that I mean there are no legal ruling authorities to govern the "words" used on the labels of products to standardize what's inside the bottle to mean what's on the outside of the label.

As such you'll find waxes and sealants labeled as glazes and polishes when the root beginning for glazes and polishes has it's history in fresh paint environments, not consumer or detailing related markets.

Anyway, to make a long story short, judge a product by what it does, not but the name on the label.

If you apply M45 to your boat and nothing else, any results it creates won't last long as the correct process would be to follow an application of M45 with a wax or sealant.
