I am glad I found this great website and this looks to be a great forum with a wealth of information!

I ran into a snag in what I thought was going to be a strait forward clear coat touch up on a piece of carbon fiber.

I prepped the surface with a wax and degreaser and I layered about 3-4 coats of clear coat via a touch up pen. I let the clear dry for a couple of days and today as I was going to go over the touch up with rubbing compound I noticed that one of hte edges looked white and I am not sure why. I also noticed some pitting within the spot I touched up. I used compound on the spot by hand for about 20 minutes or so constantly cleaning and viewing to measure progress. I have before and after pics below.

It actually took a while for it to look as good as it does-so be nice! Initially the compound stained some of the pits in the touch up and I was really worried but as I continued to buff down I removed some of the pits. I am wondering if I should use my 6" orbital to fix this instead of doing this by hand. If you have any advice I would appreciate it. If I can remove the white edge effect I would be much happier with the results!

Thanks in advance!

Build it up with clear and sand it down a bit with 1000, 1500, 2000. Buff it up with your orbital just as you would any other clear coated paint job just be careful.

I ended up using thinner to remove and start all over :)
