Ive had my truck for about a year now (11500) miles. I originally used the klasse products and lots of wax to get me through a tough new england winter. After washing the other day I noticed specs of tar/asphalt that remained on the paint (especially the hood). It seemed to come off with klasse AIO but it required more effort and a scrubbing type maneuver with the microfiber applicator pad. This worried me due to the fact that the hardened tar/asphalt material could potentially become lodged within the applicator pad causing scratches on the clear coat. So I held off.

Anyways, Ive never clayed before so I am just wondering if its time for a proper clay? Ive heard from some people that you dont want to clay too early in the vehicles life and others have said its fine.

Thanks

It's never to late to clay your vehicle.

I think around here you will find people do their personal cars at least a couple times a year.

You can definitely clay now. I would have clayed before I applied the Klasse products to the finish when you purchased it.

I'd say go to town and use a fine grade clay to ensure no marring. Claying it's hard (usually) so as long as you get your self some good clay lube you should be fine. I use ONR diluted to clay lube strength.

Claying removes above surface bonded contaminants.
Above surface bonded contaminants reduce gloss.
Above surface bonded contaminants interfere with the bonding of your choice of wax, sealant or coating.

It's never too soon to clay cured paint.

I clayed my new 2011 car exactly one week after it came off the assembly line...it was the dirtiest at that time than its ever been since... if you can imagine that.
