I am looking for a good product to restore the black trim on my 2005 Chevy Colorado. The Colorado is a daily driver with 95XXX miles and I am trying to keep her looking sexy in her higher mileage days. I have tried various products with little success. Ultima Tire & Trim Guard Plus seems to be the way to go, just curious what i would have to do to prepare the trim for UTTG. I have some dried on wax on some of the trim from a not so good tape job :dig: Also I have a line-x bed liner I am trying to bring back to life. The installer of the bed liner suggested using a product called "Just Once" seemed to do the job just wouldn't last very long.

Anyone have any tips on restoring the shine back to my powder coated black tool box?

try a magic eraser or isopropyl alcohol

the eraser is less messy though

becareful with the ME it can stain the trim. Ive turned some black trim white with the ME. The alcohol sounds like a better approach. The steamer is awesome for this!

I polished a similar truck box on a Nissan Titan with a white pad and some ultimate compound and it cleaned it up pretty nicely.

Here is a 50/50 shot and an after shot

Same exact tool box! Would Meg 105 or 205 do the job or something lighter like PO85RD?

I haven't had any issues but I've only used them on a couple cars and didn't scrub very hard. The trim was also pretty flat as opposed to textured...

A friend of mine has a truck whose trim has caked-on wax much worse than this so I'm going to subscribe to this thread. I was thinking of using a strong external cleanser like DP Cleanse-All and then follow up with something like Black Again or UTTG......what do you guys think?

Try 205 or 105. You will probably have more luck with 105.

In many cases you can use Klasse AIO on trim and it works great on removing wax and other polishes. You can use the AIO on many of the trim pieces to clean and protect them. You'll be surprised on how well it works.

Before you get all complicated abut the wax on the trim, try clay. I had a little around the edges on my RAV and there was pretty heavy wax build up on my nephew's trim, clay with a lot of lube took it right off. I also like the way clay took off the dull oxidized crap. I don't know how many here clay the trim, but it worked wonders for me.

I have an 06 Avalanche with lots of plastic on the back.

I tried a ton of different things to get the dried wax off. I ended up purchasing some Pre-WOW cleaner. It makes quick work of the job.

As for something to help restore the look, I'd go with the UTTG. I recently did a 4 way test of Black Wow, RaggTopp, Poorboys trim restorer, and UTTG and so far the UTTG is holding up.

Ok after a lot of testing on hard plastic and your bed liner pre wow is gonna be your best option, it is oily at first so start off with the brush but then go to a mf towel, I also mention the oily as it "looks" like it's removed all the contamination but covers it up at first if you don't put some elbow grease into it, if your looking closely you will see when the wax is truly gone, then protect it with whatever, uttg is a great option, soon I'll do a full review with all the different approaches I've tried and the results on soft rubber all the way to hard plastic with various chemicals

To remove wax from black trim, I use peanut butter. The oil in the peanut disolves wax. You can use peanut oil but there is a shelf life on that and you don't need very much. Just rub it in with your finger and wipe up the excess with a small towel. You might have to do it a couple of times.

I have to agree with SeaJay. I am testing the cleaning of Pre-Wow and so far it seems to work really well.
