Hey everyone, I am a first timer on AG and look forwards to talking to all.

I am trying to purchase a new buffer for my own personal vehicles, I am very mechanically skilled and well ok Common sense is up there also.
Here is my issue:

I want to purchase a buffer polisher that will tackle all projects that i need to fix. Small scratches spider webs in my finish. I am not afraid to spend the money but what do i want a DA or a rotary? i understand the pro and cons to each, but for some reason i still am undecided.

I used to help out in a shop years ago and all we used was a delwalt rotary and all 3m and collonite products. I see many new technology and products available today.

so my question is upon my abilities, money what polisher do i want to purchase, I had my eye on a porter cable and the flex PLEASE HELP all i need is some backing.
I Have an open mind to all options
THanks

Welcome to Autogeek Online Ken! :props:

After reading and understanding some of the basics, the more hands on your are the quicker you'll build your knowledge and gain experience.

Everyone starts off as a beginner but with some reading, questions, and trial, error, and practice you'll be amazed how much you'll be able to do.

This link contains articles written by Mike Phillips and has allot of great reading within.

Articles by Mike Phillips (http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/ask-expert-featuring-mike-phillips/23722-articles-mike-phillips.html)

Basic steps in order are:

Wash
Clay
Paint Correction & Polish
Seal
Wax

Make detailing enjoyable and practice. Take your time and do not become overwhelmed. Just because there are a thousand product doesn't mean you have to use them all.

Pick one product from each category from the steps above. You already have some great waxes so you're that far ahead of the game..

Autogeek has a kit section that contains everything you need to get started. For starting off I recommend a dual action polisher. These come on a variety of flavors and Autogeek carries most of them so take your time and educate yourself.

Bobby thank you for the information, I have been researching like crazy since the first time i email mike phillips for help. I see the flex is a very nice unit from the descriptions. I believe i will go with the flex. Now i just have to find all of my correct abrassives and polishes,

I was actually looking at the pinnacle clay kit to start then move to the swirl remover and the polish, but now what exactly does the insulator wax collinite 845 do, then do i use another type of wax like the colonite 476, this is where i start getting conufused with products

Ken,

If you want a complete kit including a nice selection of polishes they this is spot on!

Menzerna polishes for ceramic clear coat paint, Flex buffer, Nano polish, super intensive, Lake Country pads, Show car kit (http://www.autogeek.net/menzerna-flex-xc3401-ceramic-show-car-kit.html)

Menzerna

My favorite paint correction products.

Don't get overwhelmed but all the products be various manufactures. Detailing doesn't need to be complected because you can make an average daily driver look spectacular with a simple wash, clay, then a 1-step product lime Meguiar's D151 or Klasse All-In-one..

Collinite Products

I have Collinite 476, 845, and 915 waxes and really like them.

Collinite 845 is one of those best kept secrets. It goes of so easily, lasts for about 6 months, and costs about $15.00 a bottle. Collinite 845 leaves a properly prepared surface looking wet, seriously!

Because Collinite 845 is a more cream like consistency it's just so darn easy to use by squeezing the bottle. Collinite 476 and 915 are a more traditional paste wax making them a little more work to use but nevertheless very high quality products.
