I've been looking at a lot of pictures from many people who has attended this years Detail Fest, envious of them because I couldn't make it.... Anyway, I noticed one commonality between just about every detailer there.............................

JUST ABOUT EVERYONE ONE OF THEM WEAR THE "KNEE LENGTH" STYLE SHORTS! :rulez::rulez:

This must be an un-written code for detailers or maybe even a Federal Law? I don't know? Just curious! :laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing:

Hey look at it this way... atlest it wasnt below their knees and they werent "Sagging" showing the world their underwear. I can handle shorts to the knees, I personally have mine fall about 2in above when standing, but I cant stand sagging and that whole look.

When i was in the varsity team and played soccer... I had big legs. Mostly muscle, an wearing short shorts just made girls look at me all the time! I got made fun by guys, but i didnt care, i was getting girls while they were walking around in little groups of just guys . And up to date, i still love shorts. I love the ones just a little above the knee, i cant stand it when i bend down and the end of the short wraps around my knee!

Dude, Relax! Not everyone has lost their since of HUMOR! It's just an observation from all the photos being put on the internet from Detail Fest. Besides, if someone wanted to wear spandex that's up to them, who knows, they may be able to pick up a certain "Nitch" in the detailing market....

If anyone ever loses their leg and gets an artificial leg like mine, you will find out very fast what a hassle and expense it is to wear pants. First it's a hassle putting them on, to make it easier I have a zipper installed from the bottom of the right leg all the way up to the groin area, even with the zipper in one pant leg it's still a hassle to put pants on and take them off and this also means taking off and replacing the shoe which is best done by sitting on the floor and wrestling it on or off, again... a hassle...

With shorts its fast and easy and you don't have to buy a zipper and then pay a Seamstress to sew it in. So with pants it's always the cost of the pants plus the zipper plus the Seamstress. $$$

Besides that, ANYTIME you bang the pant side of the artificial leg into anything hard, because the other side is metal, it puts a hole in your pant leg. So now it's the cost of the paints plus the zipper plus the Seamstress plus patching the pants every time you put a hole in them and when you detail cars, it's real easy to put a hole in your pants when you bang your artificial alloy leg into something like the ground or the car you're working on. Again... $$$

If your pants are black you can have the hole patched and it's hard to see, this is what I did when I worked for Meguiar's because they have a very strict dress code aka MIB or the Men in Black.

If you've ever watched my DVD on "How to use a PC for Show Car Results", I introduce it saying,

"That while wearing dress pants and a polo shirt looks good, it's not practical nor real-world to buff out a car"

Meguiar's likes to project a "Professional Image", I understand that and while I worked for Meguiar's I always conformed to their dress code and wore black dress slacks.

When I came to Autogeek Max was a lot more understanding PLUS this is sunny Stuart, Florida, it gets hot and very humid and that plays into this quote...

I can't stand it either and I'm a very busy guy and a very active guy and if I wear longer shorts, like Levi's shorts, (my old staple), I usually roll the left side up so all day long I don't continually have the cloth dragging against and sticking to my skin as move or bend my leg. My co-workers have seen me walking around the warehouse and the studio like this and I'm sure it looks funny with one side rolled up, the other side not rolled up because the denim material slides easily against the Fiberglas socket.

If you watched the Operation Comfort Wounded Warrior Special before the holidays, you would have seen Chris, one of the Wounded Veterans in the show talking a lot with Bruno Massel and in every shot he was wearing shorts because he found out after losing his leg, just as I found out after losing my leg, that it's a huge hassle to wear pants everyday, day-in, day-out. It's much easier to wear shorts...

Most younger guys that lose their leg via war or sports, all wear shorts because it's so much easier and less costly wearing pants. Most people that were part of the World War II generation that lost their leg wear pants because they have a different mindset of what's appropriate attire. I know this because I've been missing my leg since 1986 and when you wear shorts and a have a highly polished leg that looks like it's part Terminator, you meet everyone that either has an artificial leg or knows someone that has an artificial leg.

I used to wear a lot of Levi's and the pretty much go down to the knee... and for this reason I would almost always roll-up the left side a few inches just to avoid the grabbing and sticking to my leg as I move... here's a shot of these as taken when I was machine waxing Behemoth and in this shot the left side is rolled down...

Because we live in sunny, warm, Florida, since moving here about a year and a half ago, I've found the clothing stores actually offer a huge variety of shorts because of the weather/lifestyle that's normal to Florida. I found a brand I like that I no longer have to roll up the left side to keep them from sticking to my leg as I work, mover around or even get up into or down out of my Jimmy...

In most of the video and TV work I do I wear pants... I would prefer to wear shorts as pants stiffen me up as it's not normal for me and always uncomfortable. Here's a video we made on the fly one day and if you look closely, I'm wearing shorts.

For anyone reading this thread that might not know how I lost my leg, I did it in a boating accident with my own boat, a 1970 Sanger Flat Bottom Drag Boat that I owned for 20 years, about 14 of those years after it ran over me... it wasn't the boats fault and I have a very strong passion for fast V-drive, big block Chevy Drag Boats... so I kept it...

This is one of the few shots I have of me racing the boat on Dexter Reservoir, in Eugene, Oregon... the fastest time I ever clocked was 111 miles per hour in 12 seconds in the 1/4 mile. The guy I bought the boat from ran 120+ in 9 seconds on the water... that's FAST!

I hope that none of you reading this ever loses any body part and if you read enough of my posts I always encourage everyone to work safe, including wearing Safety Glasses when using a power tool because you certainly don't want to lose an eye.

(My little sister is blind, so I know a little bit about not being able to see)

If you do ever lose your leg... I'm pretty confident that like Chris and I, you're going to find it a lot easier and a lot more comfortable to wear shorts for a lifestyle...

But yes, I prefer to wear shorts due to my artificial leg and while I don't want them too short I don't like it when they grab and drag on my skin as I'm bending, so above the knee works best.
