Early this morning I had the opportunity to test out an Aztec Hot Rod Hot Water Carpet Extractor on some floor mats that had not been cleaned in quite some time. The floor mats were covered in various stains that appeared impossible to get out.

If you're not familiar with it already, the Aztec Hot Rod is a hot water carpet extractor that's designed to deep clean carpet using the power of hot water. The Aztec is ideal for professional detailers because of its ease of use, effectiveness, and most importantly, the fact that it's portable and doesn't require a lot of space in your detailing rig.

Even if you're not a professional detailer and just want an effective means of deep cleaning the carpet in your car and home, the Aztec is a great investment.

Here you can see the driver's side floor mat prior to cleaning. As you can see there is dirt, oil, and grease that has accumulated over time.

The machine itself is very easy to use and requires very little time to set it up. All you have to do is fill the solution tank with warm water, turn the machine to the heating position, and about 10 minutes later you're all set and ready to go with hot water. Next you flip the switch to the vacuum position and you're all set.

To aid in the cleaning process the Aztec Hot Rod also includes a 32oz bottle of ready to use Detailer's Pro Carpet Extractor Pre-Treatment. This pre-treatment is effective on various types of stains including grass, oil, coffee, food, grease, etc. It doesn't contain any harsh chemicals, will not stiffen fabric, and can also be used with a scrub brush to break up some of the more tougher stains prior to using the carpet extractor.

Once the water tank has finished heating up, flip the switch to the vacuum position and go to work. It's as simple as spraying the pre-treatment on the surface (agitating where necessary), pulling the trigger to release the hot water over the area, going back and forth over the stain until it disappears, and you're all finished.

Here is how the floor mat looked once finished. It took less than 15 minutes to clean all four floor mats and it required very little agitation from the scrub brush.

When used in conjunction with a good scrub brush and a high quality upholstery cleaner, there are very few stains the Aztec can't handle.

Now that it's all nice and clean, do you suppose that lessens the risk that the accelerator pedal might get stuck under it?

Thanks. What impressed me the most, besides the cleaning ability, was the fact that it took very little time to do all four mats.

Nick,

Any idea of its durability? I read that it comes with a 3 year limited warranty, do you have more info into that?

We've had the mytee lite II for three years now and it's close to sleeping with the dirt. It has not held up as well as my thousand dollars would have liked, and getting it worked on is near impossible.

I can tell you we do not see these come back to us, and when we have had any issues with Aztec they have been more then great about dealing with them. Their customer service is wonderful. As for more info about that this was taken from the Aztec Paperwork you would get from the manufacturer.

As our customer, you are aware that the design and construction of this
product are both innovative and unique. Since this is true, in order to
troubleshoot our equipment, we rely heavily on returned defective or
failed parts so that we can examine the causes of failure. While this may
at first seem to be an inconvenience, ultimately you benefit from safer,
better designed machine components. Please give us the opportunity to
serve you better by following these RGA (Return Goods Authorization)
rules.
1. We maintain the serial number, date of shipment or sale, and
customer name on each piece of equipment sold. If you were the
purchaser, please reference that information on your request for
replacement or repair. If you purchased the equipment through a
dealer, please include the company name, the date, and the serial
number of the product.
2. Ask for an RGA number when you are ordering the replacement
part. Return the failed part within 14 days, freight prepaid, exactly
as it was at the time of failure. Our inspection and evaluation will
attempt to determine the probable cause of failure.
3. If our inspection reveals that the failed part was defective, we will
credit your account for the entire amount of the part including
your cost of return freight, but not packaging expense. When
incomplete parts are returned for credit, their condition or state
of incompletion will be assessed against the credit claim.
4. We will not accept freight collect returns or returns that do not
indicate the RGA # on the packing list.
Your satisfaction is extremely important to us. We intend to be
reasonable on any matter that is related to our warranty service or
other wear-related problems which our customers feel need
attention. Please help us to help you. Before assuming that a part is
defective, check the repair manual to see if the problem might be
something that you or one of your employees might be capable of
correcting. If it is not, follow the above policy and depend on us to
respond quickly and responsibly.

The warranty does not apply to certain consumable or wear parts such as:

The warranty does not apply to damage or failure caused by abuse, misuse, neglect, disassembly,

carriers. The warranty applies to parts, labor, and ground freight only.
In order to obtain parts warranty, the following procedures must be followed:
1. Customer must call the Distributor for an RGA (Return Goods Authorization) Number.
2. The defective part must be returned via ground freight prepaid to the Distributor with an RGA

storage area where there is a potential for freezing.
1. Pumps carry a 1 year warranty. However coverage may be denied if there is evidence of the use of

electrical portion of the pump.
2. Vacuum motors carry a 1 year warranty. Motors showing any of the following signs of abuse will be
excluded from coverage:

has been sucked through the motor the warranty is voided.)
b. Dirty motors, where failure has been caused by inadequate filtrating.
c. Motors where excessive wear indicates that the motor has been used to the full extent of
it’s normal life expectancy, regardless of the date code stamp.
Your have purchased a quality product. Each of its components has been tested and approved for use.
It is unlikely that you will ever have a warranty claim if you properly maintain this machine.

I'm glad you like it. But, I'd go with a Mytee all day. I have both the Mytee Lite II, and the Hot Rod.

The Mytee Lite II makes the Hot Rod look more like a Hot Wheels, ha.

MyTee Lite II is on my 'wishlist" but if I can find a decent used Aztec for a good price it looks like it can get the job done and would be my 2nd choice.

there are round special brush / drill attachments. from light, medium course really handy / I know a lot of guys would only use special products to work with.

I use besides those special products. And more just for floor mats. You can do a mix, of Simple green & A degreaser of your choice.

once spraying the solution on the floor mats, let it work for at least 5mn. then use the Drill Brush Attachment / give a nice pass
Then Use your Hot Portable Extractor. You will see a lot of difference.
