ok, lets hear some opinions

Do I get the Griots Garage DA or the Porter Cable 7424 XP?

I plan on using it for my general use including using it with the new Megs MF system

thanks for your opinions

Griots hands down. The PC is nice, but the griots is better. I plan on replacing my PC with one.

After using both the pcxp and the gg...i personally prefer the gg because of the power it provides. They will both get the job done though.

For using the Megs MF DA system it probably isnt going to matter. It does not need to the higher power to correct. I use my GG on aobut 3.75 for correction and 2.75 for finishing.

Where the difference will come in is when you start to use other pads and polishes or even different polishes (such as M105) with the MF pads (105 drags a lot more than D300). Then you will want the higher power. And you will want to use these others eventually.

So, to make a long post short, get the Griots. Good power and they seem to be pretty reliable. I have not seen too many failures. Maybe others have.

I have both but the griots has the edge by a little. The lifetime warranty and being cheaper is definitely a plus

great info gents, keep it coming!

another question, how decent is the factory backing plate? Will it work with all the various different pad systems out there? Again, I want to make sure it work with standard pads and the MF system

IMO the PCXP isn't that much of an upgrade to the older one, so with that said... GG6 for sure. you can use 6.5" pads with the 6" backing plate that it comes with, but i would purchase a 5" DA backing plate so you can use 5.5" pads as well...

I have the PC and have no complaints. I did not know this when I bought mine, but the PC is assembled in Mexico while the GG and Megs (as far as I know) are made in China. I am not anti Chinese, but pro American and North American made products.

ah, was not aware its a 6" plate. I agree, the 5" is the way to go. Wonder if they would swap it out if I ordered

to be exact the backing plate is 5.75" and no they (Griots) won't swap it out as it's the only backing plate Griots offers with their 6" random orbital. you'll have to purchase a different one elsewhere...

I just ordered the GG and it should arrive on Friday!! I did a lot of research and the vast majority of people say go with GG. Do a google search and really work it. You will find it for less than $90 then call AG and they will match it. Pretty good deal! I'll let you know what I think after I use mine for the first time!
