WOW.

What camera/lens are you using?

I am using the Canon 7d with the 24-70 2.8L lens.

The shot is a High Dynamic Range shot (HDR) which means that I took several pictures at different exposures (0,-2,-1,1,+1) and combined them so that all parts of the photo are correctly exposed. IMO this is more like how you actually see as your eyes can take in detail where a standard shot would have under and over exposed areas that are blown out (no detail). It can be a love/hate thing, but I find it can make some really striking photos, so I am trying to use it more.

Oh My!
Thanks!

I have a bunch more to post, but due to some hosting issues it is going to be a while, but to tide you over I have one more that I managed to get uploaded.

I am using the Canon 7d

Nice.... too rich for my blood though! I'm still debating between picking up a T3i or a 60D right now.

I have some experience with the T2i, and it is a great little camera, but the lack of LCD display with all the settings on top drives me crazy. The two look pretty comparable, the 60d has a much faster burst speed, but the T3i has some newer features such as dust cleaning. They are both great cameras, it will depend on what you primarily plan to shoot.

I found that my last DSLR body lasted me 7 years, so if I depreciate the cost over that period of time it is much less per year than we all spend on detailing products

Well, let's put it this way: Other than the P&S Canon digitals I've been using, my current SLR (which I learned on) is an AE-1 Program

So yeah, I have an almost all-manual 35mm and quite a few FD-mount lenses... goes to show how up to date I am when it comes to photography! And thus the lack of a settings display on top of the camera probably won't phase me.

In either case, your pics look absolutely amazing! :props:

James - those are some great shots, you have a good eye :xyxthumbs:

Here are a few more from yesterday ... as I post this there is a nice thunderstorm and heavy rain going on. Very glad our weather held for DF.

This is the Meguiars Microfiber correction class introducing the product.

http://www.smugmug.com/Cars/Detail-Fest-2011/IMG5749/1230574895_LAUJR-X2.jpg
The reps purposefully used a heavy rubbing compound on the rental car to give us some serious defects to take out with the new system.

The surface looked like it had been wet sanded

This is the correction after one first-time user gave the system a go, probably 3-4 passes.

http://www.smugmug.com/Cars/Detail-Fest-2011/IMG5765/1230593438_eXTB7-X2.jpg
This is the section after a few of us had a chance to try the system ... it looks amazing for only being compounded!

http://www.smugmug.com/Cars/Detail-Fest-2011/IMG5766/1230596133_3LDqV-X2.jpg
Shot of the hood after a few people tried out the system, again, only compounded, no finish polish. There was a little bit of hazing / marring that I am sure would be taken out with the polish step - this system was really impressive.

I saw this on my way out of the class room, I can only imagine what Mike did to whoever put polish directly on the backing plate ...

Not really big into trucks, but there were some very nicely setup rides being shown.

Bill and James, Amazing work on the photos! You guys really have a talent! It was great hanging out with both of you and great getting to chat with you over lunch James! If there are photos on here that I want to load to my pc will I lose a lot just copying them from here or should I contact the photographer and ask for them? Bill, I remember you mentioned to me that dealing with raw they dont lose their resolution when being saved but I wasn't sure if something is lost in taking them off the forum. I'll tell you one thing... I don't need to post very many pics at all! After the ones you guys have theres really no point. Im the MAN

The pictures I post are much smaller and slightly less quality than the RAW files. Since there is little to no support for RAW in browsers, I export them to JPEG format but anytime I go back to tweak / edit the photo from RAW then re-export to a lossy format like JPGE. The other reason is that most people would not appreciate having to try and download full resolution images that are 26MB each

Anyway, long story short, let me know if you want to download the originals let me know and I will show you how to do it. You can also order at cost prints if you would like any.

Amazing pictures! :dblthumb2:

I agree that good pictures take a photograhpers eye to make it happen.

Much like detailing it takes more than having the most expensive camera. Ansel Adams took his pictures prior to any DSLR and I'd have to say his pictures were pretty decent. It's about the art as much as about the science when it comes to photography and based on this sampling I'd say you guys have both.

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Bill! Will ask you how to download. Also there is certainly one print in particular I think I will order. I'll pm you later after I see the rest of the photos you have.
