So the wifey asked what I wanted for my birthday in two weeks and I jokingly said a new buffer! She said another one! (I have the Megs g2 110, Makita DA orbital, and 9227 ... For the moment I am setup with every backing plate from 3" - 6" and pads from 3" to 7" foam, wool, Surbuf ...

Do I really need it? Probably not, would I like it? Absolutely!
It's either a new toy or a trip to the coast fishing and stay at a condo...

What would you do?

I kinda think the 3401 is the missing weapon in the arsenal ... Two other machines for te price of one is tempting!

Go for the 3401. It's a great machine. You'll never want to use a lesser DA again.

Not true. If you plan on using the Meg's DA MF system, go with the GG. The Meg's system is truly awesome! However, 3401 is GREAT, too! I have both. I would NOT waste your money on the GG 3". I had it and sold it.

The Microfiber DA does work, but it is extremely SLOW! This is true!

Slow? I think it cuts faster than anything I've ever used on my 3401! :)

Fred,

It's not slow, if anything, it cuts FAST!!!

I think the DA MF system with the GG DA cuts better than surbuf/M105 on my 3401. The DA MF finishes noticeably better, too. Mechanically, surbufs will work better on a traditional DA. However, the forced rotation of the Flex is AWESOME!!!

However, just noticed you already have the G110v2(you can use the MF system with that), go with the 3401!!!!!! The GG 3" is terrible, IMO.

I haave the 3in GG. I dont reach for it much. I have my old PC 7424 with 3.5in BP and use 4in pads for smaller areas and spot buffing. Only use the 3in in really tight spots.

Is your Megs 110 the newer one? The V2? If not the GG6in may be the way to go and save money. Or get the GG 6in and tthe DAMF system. If you are the V2, then I'd Flex 3401 it.

The Microfiber DA System is not sow by any means! It cuts very fast IMHO.

yeah i have the newer Megs G110V2 and with pressure i can get the pad to stop rotating .. possible sign of failure to happen .... but as i've gotten really good with the 9227 and foam pads I think I am inadvertently gravitating to the Flex ... and will keep the weak Megs machine as my wax spreader ...

I just got back in from doing some testing. I polished with MF cutting discs/D300/GG DA(speed 4). I also polished another section with the 3401/surbuf/Ultimate Compound(speed 6). The MF/DA combo clearly cut and finished better. I think the surbufs work better with a traditional DA.

If you have a rotary then don't waste your money on the 3401. If you're DA is not working properly then replace it with a new one, the Griot's 6" ROP. If you're budget allows the 3401, then do like Mark said and buy the Meg's DA MF system along with the Griot's ROP.

Richard makes a good point, since you have a rotary, the 3401 isn't going to do any better. Plus, now knowing your 110v2 is almost dead, get a GG DA to replace it(it's much better). My 3401 is taking a back seat to my GG, but ONLY because of the DA MF system. I will use the 3401 when needed, but I will most likely use the GG DA more.

i believe that as well as i also played with Surbuf and the 9227 and the fibers on the surbuf laid flat ... im guessing the oscillating and roating action on the DA keeps the pile up allowing it to cut better.
