I'm a newbie here and just purchased a Porter Cable DA with Meg 105 and 205. I was wondering after using the 105/205 if I should use a glaze like "WG finishing glaze" before applying my final sealant "WG Deep Gloss Paint Sealant." I wasn't sure if the glaze step was needed or not. I will be using this on a 2005 Chevy Colorado with Superior Blue Metallic paint.

Thanks,
Justin

Depending on what pads you use, the last step is not necessarily needed. You can get great finishing results from M205 especially with a hydrotech pad.

However, if you really want to make the paint shine and take it to the next level, you can use Menzerna P085rd. It is a great finishing polish and one of my personal favorites to pair with a gray flat pad for finishing.

:welcome: To Autogeek Online!

Meguiar's M105 and M205 are a great team. These two products combined with the appropriate pads and tackle most anything.

Meguiar's M105 is a compound thus tends to be aggressive. Meguiar's M205 is a polish and being much less aggressive finishes nicer and leaves a mirror finish.

Evaluate the panels condition and start off less aggressive and if the result warrants then switch to Meguiar's M105.

There is a basic order in which to proceed.

Basic steps in order are:

Wash
Clay
Paint Correction and Polish
Seal
Wax

While all of the steps are recommended they don't necessarily have to be checked off like a grocery list. Satisfaction can be as easy as a wash and simple wax but as you can see there "can" be allot more.

What kind of Pads do you guys recommend for 105 and 205? 5.5" / 6"

If you're using a Porter Cable 7424 style polisher then I'd recommend using the 5 1/2" Lake Country pads. They're smaller in size therefore require less power to perform efficiently.

Lake Country 5 1/2 x 7/8 inch Beveled Edge Foam Pads, buffing pads, Lake Country curved edge pads, polishing pads (http://www.autogeek.net/lake-country-beveled-edge-pads.html)

:iagree: 5.5" pads are the way to go with the PC. 6.5" pads are too big and tend to bog down the machine and limits it's correcting ability.

As for what to follow up M205 with, I've always had great results with the way M205 finishes out and I will just top that with my sealant or wax or choice. After I do a paint cleansing using IPA or your paint cleanser of choice.

Several different pads, but all in the 5.5" range. Like it has been said anything bigger is going to bog down the machine and make it take longer to get correction if you can get it at all. I'm still kinda blown away that they even offer a kit for the PC with anything but 5.5" pads, but whatever. Heres what I would recomend.

For the heaviest cutting and correction you can get on a PC use M105 with Surbuf pads. These pads have great cutting power, are cheap, and most of the times the haze left behind can easily be cleaned up in one step with something like M205.

For good cutting, without leaving a ton of haze you can use M105 with either LC Orange Pads or Lc Hydrotech Cyan pads. The Cyan tend to finish down better but their downfall is their durability. It is well within the realm of posibility for a hydrotech pad to only last one or two uses, especially if you are using it on a PC with lots of pressure.

As for M205 you have a wide range of pads to use. You can still get good cut out of the M205 with a white LC polishing pad and it will finish down fairly well. You can also use it with the LC Hydrotech Tangerine pad, but again I have found the durability of these pads to be somewhat of an issue, however they WORK, so I will continue to use them.

You could also use M205 with a pad with no cut to get great finishing results.

What about Meguiars Padīs?
They are GREAT pads....for a rotary. The only problem with the Megs pads is as far as I know you can't only get them in 4, 6.5, 7, and 8.5 sizes. That means there is not a god size pad to use on a PC. Sure you could do a whole vehicle with 4" pads, but it would take quite a long time.
