Picked up a few new (used) cars in October and am trying to get them into shape. My wifes car, a red 2005 Mercedes CLK Cabrio, is in pristine condition and only needs a good wax job and interior detail. Mine is a black 2005 Mercedes E320 CDI. It's a little more work with lots of road chips and a few other, minor blemishes. The paint is still very shiny. I also have a 1970 Chevelle that I've had for 16 years, and took me 8 to complete. It's always been babied, and waxed with Mothers carnuba. The paint is a tri-coat of Dark Montana Blue base, Violet Pearl mid, and then cleared. It may need a touch of perfection, but is in very nice condition.

I have the Makita buffer (9227?), but it has been used mostly for other work. I do have foam pads and the wool pad that came with the kit, but still need to learn to use it as a buffer. I've also decided on Collinite Insulator wax for my final coat. I've been more on the mechanic, bodywork and paint side of things, but need to get more involved in finish maintenance and detailing. I have some questions that I'll post on the proper forum, but wanted to introduce myself.

Makita makes a nice rotary buffer... I learned on older, heavier rotary buffers but eventually purchased a Makita back in the 1980's and still have it today. I buffed out so many cars with it that I eventually wore the rough textured, sand cast aluminum housing smooth like chrome...

Besides a rotary buffer, it's also nice to have a dual action polisher to go with it, like a Flex 3401, or a Griot's Garage or Porter Cable DA Polisher or even a Cyclo Polisher. These types of tools get you away from a single, direct drive rotating action and come in real handy for create a 100% swirl free finish.

I see the front fender badges are gone. Is it a 396 or possibly and LS6 454?? :props:

Back in high school a number of my friends had Chevelles, heck I even had a beater 1969 Chevelle, wish I had it now...

Thanks all! It's actually a very well optioned Malibu. I removed all the body trim and emblems (and filled all the holes!). No big block, sorry. It's a built 350, .030 over with a solid Crane Cam, Edelbrock Performer RPM heads and manifold along with a Holley 650DP. It turned mid 13's in the quarter at just over 100 mph with the old cam (Performer RPM), it should have picked up a tenth or so with the solid cam.

This place has been great and addictive. Thanks again for the compliments on the Chevelle and the welcomes.
