View Full Version : How aggressive is Meguiar's DA System?

The way I interpret everything I've read and heard, it would be considered more aggressive than a Lake Country orange pad, is that correct? How about compared to LC yellow pads? What about an orange or yellow pad on a Flex 3401?

Are you talking about the microfiber pads only?

And then comparing them to foam pads?

So in a comparison you would keep the chemical, tool, paint and technique all the same and the only variable would be the pad material?

Yes the MF cutting disc is more aggressive than an orange pad.

How about compared to LC yellow pads?

Yes, I love the LC pads but I've never been a big fan of the Yellow pad.

Yes again. See Thread IMO, the Flex 3401 is no longer DA king... (http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/auto-detailing-101/33590-imo-flex-3401-no-longer-da-king.html)

IMHO The Surbuf pad is more aggressive than a LC yellow pad and leaves a nicer finish.
If you have ever used a Surbuf pad with M105 on a DA, it can and will cut some paint.

IMHO The Megs DA MF cutting disc and D300 is not as aggressive as Surbuf/105 combo.
M105 Compound is Meguiars most aggressive super-micro abrasive technology SMAT polish.

MF DA is MUCH easier & cleaner to use. My only caveat was cleaning after each section pass.
IMHO When an air compressor is not available to clean the disc, a dry "Bug Sponge (http://www.autogeek.net/pinsafscrub.html)" works great.

Bottom Line:
I like the new Megs DA MF system

I guess I should have been more specific. What I meant was using an orange LC pad with Meg's UC, followed by a gray pad with 85rd. That's the combo I like to use on my Camaro so that's what I'll go with. I'd like a comparison of that against the entire MF DA system from Meguiar's.

The DA MF cutting disc and D300 cuts better, faster is easier and cleaner to use than UC.
The DA MF cutting disc and D300 is more aggressive the UCompound and LC Orange pad.

UCompound / Orange pad
UPolish / White pad
Menz PO85rd / Black pad

I now use:
D300 / MF DA cutting disc (if correction is needed)
UPolish / White pad
85RD / Black Pad

D300 can certainly correct some paint. I pulled out 3000 grit sandpaper out of Honda paint in one pass with it. I know Honda paint is softer but that is still some remarkable correction

So far the reports coming back on this new system are looking better every day .

D300 + MF cutting discs will definitely cut better than UC/Orange. D300/MF cutting discs finish great as well, generally speaking. Some will argue that surbuf/M105 will cut a bit better than D300/MF cutting discs, but it definitely does not finish better. It's being reported that M105 works very well with the MF cutting discs, but I haven't tried that combo. I'd be willing to bet M105/MF cutting discs cut and finish better than surbuf/M105.

I am a little confused about sponge. In the link above the sponge is shown a large block, but I see pictures (link to post #12 below) where is seems to be shown more like a 1" thick pad. I hope I am making myself clear. Are they being cut down or are there other similar products?

see post #12 (http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/auto-detailing-101/36019-megs-da-micro-kit-how-many-pads-2.html)

The actual Pinnacle bug sponge is 5" long and 3" square and it works fine that size.

Yesterday I did a 2009 Mustang Vista Blue Metallic.
It had some VERY pronounced swirls and scratches.

Sorry 'bout the POS camera...but you can still see 'em.

I'l get some after pics and post 'em. It's now clear as glass.

I found when I did a test spot that there were still some faint swirls left.
For the original test spot I used the DA MF cutting pad and D300

So to "Kick it up a notch" I used two dime sized spots of D300 and two dime sized spots of M105
This "combo" on a primed DA disc cut faster and more aggressive than just the DA disc and D300 alone.
I also found that the using M105 alone flashing, drying, misting, splatter, taping and cleanup were gone.
The "combo" cleared up all the swirls with just one section pass and made short work of the entire car.
