I too have been wondering if I could use my clay bar on my windshield. I noticed that my MF towel "grabs" when I run it across my windshield (after I washed and dried my car). I think I'll try using my clay bar (as recommended above) and see how much of a difference it will make. :xyxthumbs:

Anything you can do to remove contaminants and smooth the surface will help a windshield. I've used clay, #0000 steel wool or even a strong polishing compound. You'll never smooth out nicks or scratches without a glass-specific product, but removing any garbage bonded to the glass will always make the glass seem smoother and cleaner. Wipers work better and rain sheds easier.

Claying your windshield "is" the right thing to do.

Cleaning

Meguiar's Glass Cleaner used with a Cobra Microfiber Glass Towel is a tough combination to beat.

Meguiar’s Glass Cleaner Concentrate, 1 Gallon, dilutes to make an excellent auto glass cleaner. Meguiars Concentrated Car Glass Cleaner is great for (http://www.autogeek.net/mg12001.html)

DP Pro Series High Performance Glass Restorer

Use this with a dual action polisher and a gray pad. this does an incredible product that leaves the glass glowing clean.

DP High Performance Glass Restorer removes etched water spots from auto glass and restores perfect clarity. Apply with a polisher or applicator for (http://www.autogeek.net/dp515.html)

I'm lock step with Bobby's recommendation. I love both the glass restorer and the Meguiar's Glass Cleaner. I've used many glass cleaners and it's hard to beat Meguiar's for the price OR the performance.

Also, after claying the windshield, wax it. I'd use a sealant that lasts quite a while (I usually use DP PolyCoat or UPGP).

It makes a HUGE difference in the rain and also when washing. You'll find that you barely need to use your wipers and drying/avoiding water spots/etching will be easy.

Glass is no different from paint. Clean, polish if it needs it, and then protect :dblthumb2:
