I am slowly bringing my 2000 Jeep Cherokee back around and part of my process is restoring the faded black plastic trim that is all over this particular vehicle. My process has been to remove any faded black plastic, sand, and paint with Krylon Fusion plastic paint. Well this has gone swimmingly until I tried to use the same process on the door protection moulding, these pieces (particularly the ones on the front doors) have started to warp over the years. They bow outwards at the ends and are pulling up the new trim tape. Any tips for helping the tape stick better or helping these want to straighten back out again. New ones are just too pricey for a car this old.

Thanks!

3M makes a great double-sided tape for body moldings. Just make sure the surface is free of any sealants/waxes before you put it on. Would be good to do an IPA wipe down just before applying your moldings.
