Today I wanted to practice wet sanding before I get my shipment from AG (2000 and 3000grit sand paper and a few other items) I used my dad beater mini van, first I keyed a large portion of the hood. Then I wet sand using 1500 then 3000 grit. Finished with compound and polish.

Product used for fixing scratches.
1. 1500 grit paper from Pep boys
2. 3000 grit paper from Autozone (got a scratch kit for 95 cent)
3. Griot DA polisher
4. Meguiar's Ult compound.
5. Meguiar's 205
6. Lake Country orange and white pads.
7. Few MF

Here are some pics.

I made from key marks on the hood so I had something to work with.

You made some progress so far. Are you going to see what the white pad and M-205 will do to gloss things up?

Looks like the painter layed the paint on there pretty heavy. You are lucky to have a test subject like that. You should take advantage of that beater to learn how to perfect paint with a rotary.

I was free today so I wanted to test some of my wax. I tested 6 waxes and one sealant, I notice there are some waxes people haven't mention about so I threw in some over the counter stuff. This was a spur of the moment thing, my taping job was a mess because I only had wider width taping and had a hard time cutting them.

Pics of set up.

Here is a video of me flooding.
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KDOPXfwFlKk]YouTube - wax comparison[/video]

All of the wax did its job but I would only use NXT 2.0 and M26 on cheaper detailing and save the other for higher end works.

I hope you guys enjoy the vid, I did this test to see if NXT 2.0 and M26 can stand up with the big boys. After seeing the results, I prefer to use NXT and M26 on the cheaper details.

I was REALLY impressive with Auto Glym HD for 20 bucks it was a steal!

Thanks for the testing video. I enjoyed it. Looks like the AG HD sheds water the fastest. Cool because i just got a tub of it last week. This type of practice and testing will increase your skills ten fold, Keep it up Slick!! :dblthumb2: The lady yelling in the background near the end of the video adds a nice touch too.

It wasn't so bad, I still need a lot of practice, Kristopher do you use a PTG when you sand?

You can try to get a hood at a junk yard, I read somewhere if your nice you can get a free one lol.

I was in a rush and did not get the chance to examine how glossy the paint was, I just wanted to see if I removed all the sanding marks.

Yeah I want to get a rotary soon, have to do a few jobs before I can afford to get one. What do you suggest since there so many in the market now?

Yeah, I guess we missed the part of the vid with "Hey Dad, I'm going to go out and key the crap out of your hood, hopefully I'll be able to polish it out..."

Boy Oozey, it's a good thing you've got an easygoing dad...

Hahaha he can care less what happens to this car. We used that mini van (over 250kmiles) to do home remodeling and this car has seen enough abuse. Dents, scratch, oxidized everywhere on this car, makes this a perfect car to practice on. :dblthumb2:

Nope I let all of them sit for 20 mins. I guess in the video it doesn't do justice to Klasse, but would a few hour of curing make a difference?

It was about to get dark so I didn't have enough time to let all of them to cure to what is recommend.

I was cracking up when I first saw the keyed up pics of the hood!!!! When you posted early about keying your dads car, I thought maybe a few hits here and there. When I saw that hood I almost feel out of the chair! Looks like you did a great job though man!!! Nice write up and pics!:xyxthumbs:

I actually don't. Should I? Yes, probably, ha. But, I wouldn't work on clear that appears to be worn, or thin. I'm pretty good at eye balling it at this point. I've never gone through clear before.

I do plan on actually buying one just to have. :dblthumb2:
