Waxes for trim

Once the black plastic trim is brought back to lfe are there any waxes that are ok to use over the trim,or is it better to just use something like UTTG.

I would say it's better to use something like UTTG, but, I know that Pinnacle Souveran can be used on black trim with no ill effects.

:iagree:When I'm done wiping off Souveran, I'll rub the residue over the rest of the plastics. It really shines them up nice.

UTTG is IMO the best.....and it last very long! I personally haven't found anything better! I have it on my truck and the plastic trim still looks great and beads amazingly, even after 2 months of winter abuse!!

I use a sealant - going to last longer than wax. 3M Performance Finish (http://www.autogeek.net/3m-performance-finish.html)
But I think any would work. If I were to choose a wax it would be Collinite 845IW

A fellow member from here and Autopia uses Collinite 845-IW on his trim and siad it worked great.

I did a test back in the fall on one of the cars I care for, an Olds Intrigue. It had faded textured black plastic at the cowl, below the windshield. I scrubbed it with Meguiars APC and laid on 2 generous coats of Meg's Gold Class dressing. After allowing a few days to fully penetrate, I wiped it clean with ONR at QD strength and applied two coats of the only product I had in stock at the time that I knew wouldn't turn white - Eagle One wax. So far it's held up all winter. Beading is weak, but still present, and it is still nice and black. When springtime arrives I'll try the same process on the wife's black plastic luggage rack, this time with Optimum dressing and wax. It definitely beats the maintenance needs of a dressing-only treatment IMO.

UTTG is as good as it gets unless you have a coating.
