View Full Version : Time between Dr. ColorChip and Buffing?

I have recently purchased Dr. ColorChip for my car and I'm planning to touch up the rock chips before a detail.

How long do I need to wait after applying Dr. ColorChip to do the scratch/swirl removing, cleaner wax, etc? I understand some touch products have a 2 week "no buffing" period, does this apply to Dr. ColorChip?

Will Porter Cable + heavy compound take the touch-up paint off?

Anyone with experience of detailing right after Dr. ColorChip?

Thx

Go to the colourchip website and read all the FAQs. They recommend you do all your compounding and heavy buffing before you start using their product.

After using it you can get it wet but it takes 1 week for the paint to cure so I wouldn't wash (for the week) and I wouldn't buff for 30 days....

probably also depends on how big a repair you did, how well the chip accepted the paint etc. etc but those times are on the site I believe...

Thank you for the reply. On their website, I found the recommendation of doing the compounding before using their product, but can't find the times anywhere.

My question boils down to whether it's okay to put sealant and wax right after I use Dr. ColorChip. And what about using the Porter Cable to apply the sealant/wax.

you can wax with your pc a week after...

What is the proper procedure for detailing with Dr. ColorChip paint?

Wash & dry the vehicle. Do any "hard" detailing first, like wet-sanding, compounding and buffing. Then use our paint. Follow up with standard waxing a week later. Refrain from using a circular buffing wheel and wool pad for at least 30 days. We suggest using a random-orbit buffer with a foam pad and quality compound at all times for the best, swirl-free results (rather than the circular buffer and wool pad.)
