Client had a recent run in with his garage wall, taking the situation into his own hands, bought touch up spray paint from a local auto store. The results weren't very promising. In a day or two I'll be performing a regular detail but I'm wondering if theres any way to shine the paint maybe even blend the 2 together? The touched up area lacks a clear coat but possibly some cutting compound can shine it up a bit?

Area is right above the tire, pretty noticeable.

I would see if the touch-up paint will come off with some lacquer thinner.

Holy fail! That's why you never paint heavy right up to the tape line. You can try wet sanding and buffing it with 1000/1500/2000 and then hit it with a compound and polish. You'll never get rid of that tape line though. That will shine it up, but that's about all. Do you have a machine? I just did this over the summer with my old Maxima and was able to get a good shine out of it.

I have a porter cable 7242 with a 6" velcro backing plate. By 1000/1500/2000 do you mean sand paper grit?

Exactly. That's what I used with a PC 7424. I wet sanded in the 3 stages and then hit it with Optimum Hyper Compound with an orange bad and then Optimum Polish with an orange or white pad and and it shined up nice.

Was wondering since there's rubbing compound with equivalent grit to sand paper boss.

Actually didn’t take too long, a lot less than I expected. I had to run over the area 3 times each step…figure roughly 3 minutes each time. Not ideal, but doable. I had just repaired some rust and re-painted the wheel well on mine and came out decent. I had a spray can of PPG matched to the car at a local Car Quest and went to town.

Ha I guess I'm wrong, but I'm on here for that very reason.
