Most of what I've read, they use gold including Rasky IIRC.

Why not? It's been said that you can achieve a hologram free finish with M105 and wool.

black, red, gold?
Black, red, gold, don't see much difference, but you will if you work 85rd till it's fully broken down and then some. Btw, haven't tried purple yet.:D

Lost to rotary? What happened to 85rd and a PC or a (maybe) flex?

White pad has worked wonders for me.
Purple - for very Heavy use
Orange - sucks!!!
White - great for light work & polishing Best one in this line
Red - sealants

Mark,

I'd give the red or gold a try. Both these pads are recommended for use with fine polishes when jeweling the finish.

Menzerna PO85RD is a 3000 grit polish. As you buff, you'll see it will form sort of a haze as your working it and then it will get transparent. It may take a few minutes but eventually it almost disappears on you.

I've been thinking about a rotary for awhile. I worked on(test spot) a BLACK corvette(c5 z06) for the first time. It was heavily swirled. Tried my 3401, surbuf, M105, and while it helped, it was nowhere near a defect free finish. So, this experience put me over the top. A rotary and wool pad is in order.

Why does the orange pad suck?

Thanks for the tips, Bobby.

I use th White and Black pads . I used the purple one last year at DF with 105 and i tell you one thing it cuts like no tomorrow . As far as cleaning on the fly i use a pad brush and my air compressor .

Adam, will the black pad break down 85rd faster than red or gold because it's not as soft?

.

I have been using a Chicago Pneumatic rotary for 26 years now with wool pads. The pneumatic is very light and easy to maneuver. Haven't had a complaint about it yet although it would be a boat anchor with out the air compressor. Before that I had a Craftsman rotary and I was dead after one door with the weight of those things back then plus the heat build up would burn your hands.
