Ive picked up the inline water filter system from the autogeek store, but Ive still ended up with hard water deposits (though not nearly as much as without the filter system).

Is it safe to use a 1:3 vinegar/water mix (1 part vinegar:3 parts distilled water) as a quick detailer to remove these spots?

You dont need a water filter (well maybe you do), you need a water softener.

I use this. It is supposed to soften water.

Clean Water Filter Kit, clear inline hose filter, car wash filter kit (http://www.autogeek.net/waterfilterkit2.html)

Well it doesn't seem to be softening completely.

Why don't you use a real detailing spray like Megs Final Inspection instead of a water/vinegar mix? Vinegar surely can't be good for your existing wax/sealant.

That, and I can see the over-spray cracking and drying out rubber parts / seals due to the acidity.

I've used that filter with limited success. You have to limit the water flow or it is useles. Read the instructions CAREFULLY. For it to work correctly the water almost dribbles out.

Yes, vinegar will remove most water spots that have't etched into the paint yet.
