Hey autogeek guys and gals! I recently picked up a speed6 painted in black mica. I'm not new to auto detailing, as in wash, wax, clay, interior stuff, etc... However I am new to the whole idea of polishes, sealants, and all the other more serious stuff you guys are into! I would like to collect some supplies eventually and do a serious polish on my car, as it has some minor scratches and a bit of swirling from washing and the elements. I currently own a random orbit (the make and model escape me right now) and some basic detailing supplies. I'm looking for some product recommendations for a metallic black paint that spends 98% of its life outside. I need something that's going to get rid of the minor paint defects I have and provide a long lasting finish. And once I get to my random orbit, I'll post up the model of it so you guys can confirm I have a machine that will work for what I want to do.

I've done a little reading around on this site and paintcarendetailing.com and it seems like Lake Country pads are the pads to go with. I've also found a lot of people using Menzerna and Wolfgang products. I do have a bottle of Rejex, but I've never used it because I've been too lazy to strip all the old wax off the car. Is this stuff any good?

Sorry for all the questions... but thanks in advance for all the help! And if there are any obvious threads that I missed that cover my questions, please feel free to slap my wrist and point me to them. There's a LOT of stuff on this forum!

First of all... :welcome:

Menzerna makes some very good polishes. I want to see pics of you vehicle and the defects you want to remove before suggesting what polishes to use. But with a black car I would defiantly suggest using Menz PO85RD as is will really amp up the shine.

I would definatly suggest picking a good sealant like Rejex, Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant, Klasse High Gloss Sealant (my favorite), DP Poli-Coat Paint Sealant, Menzerna Power Lock. Rejex seems to be a good sealant. I hear about more people using it as a wheel sealant than anything else.

Welcome! My wife has a black Mazda 5. I really like what I have seen using optimum products on her car. Let's. See the speed6!

Troy- thanks for the suggestions. I'll try to get some close-ups here soon once the weather clears up... it's miserable here in central Ohio currently. Mainly what I'm trying to clear up are the swirls. It's a 2007, so it's not horrible, but they're there for sure. And there's some scratches I'll try to photograph as well.

dublife- This is my first Mazda experience. How do you like your 5? So far since April, I've been in love with the speed6! Here's some pictures.

Welcome!

I've owned lots of Mazda's, including a 93 RX-7, a 2005 RX-9, a Mazda Protege 5, and my wife currently drives a Mazda 5!

It sounds like you are on the right track with your product selection

Welcome to Autogeek Online! :welcome:

Check out this article, see if you have a TOB or Traditional Orbital Buffer, if you do it's really only good for spreading out wax on large flat panels like cars in the old days had because that's when these types of buffers were introduced.

The Traditional Orbital Buffer aka The Wax Spreader (http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/hot-topics-frequently-asked-questions/25148-traditional-orbital-buffer-aka-wax-spreader.html)

Also, check out these videos and the article as they will go over the most popular types of polishers available today.

Just to note, it's usually best to "Introduce Yourself" in an Introduction forum group to let everyone know you've officially crossed over from Lurker to Active Member. Maybe tell us little bit about yourself, where you live, what you drive or what projects you're working on etc.

Then if you have product or process questions, look through the different forum group categories and try to pick one that the topic matches your questions and then start a dedicated thread for your specific questions

Clicking the below link will take you to the list of different categories or groups of forums identified by their title.

Autogeek Online Forum Topical Groups (http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/)

Or you can simply post your questions is the Detailing 101 forum which is a catch-all forum for any kind of question.

Auto Detailing 101 (http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/auto-detailing-101/)

A good practice is to post a dedicated thread on a specific topic with 2-3 questions, that makes it easy to get great replies. For a new topic, start a new thread.

Thanks everyone for the welcomes and the links and tips! When I get some pictures of what I'm trying to correct, I'll start a new thread in an appropriate section on the board. :xyxthumbs: I really wish I would've come across this forum years ago, as my last car was in some serious need of help. But I guess it's never too late to start!
