I was looking around on here for people that have experience with portable canopies and the only picture I saw to give an idea of a canopy was a 10x12 canopy with a Mustang. It didn't have any side views so I couldn't get a good idea of how well it works. Really I'm guessing a 10x15 would be the ideal size but

1- Who makes the Best/ Easiest canopy?(1 Man Setup)
2-What do you use to hold it down?
3-Whats the ideal size?

Thanks in advance:xyxthumbs:

1.-I bought my 12x12 Aluminum from Sports Authority and it is great. I didn't have it secured correctly once and a huge updraft lifted it into the air with me having just a second to grab one leg. The rest of teh frame got twisted up so high that it was above my roof. As the wind subsided I wrestled it to the ground (upside down) Oviously it should have beenn ruined or damaged. Incredibly that was months ago and I have used it many times since. Their is absolutely no difference in its look or operation now then their was then. I wish I had a video becasue you wouldn't believe it still works if you saw it fly and twist like that.

2.-Tie the legs to water buckets (Mike P. tip)

3.-12x15

I have and used a 10X12 often, but would want one longer now as its too short but plenty wide.

Hopefully with water or something heavy in them ;)

One reason I posted was I can get a 10x10 for $50 right now but if its to small I'm not going to waste the money. Can you guys set your tents up by yourselves?

I have a 10x15 made by Impact Canopy. It is heavy (84 pounds) to move around but it can be set up by one person in less than 5 minutes. It is a high quality canopy built to last a long time so it is not cheap (I paid $400 for mine direct from the distributor...usually they are $800).

And here's the link to the thread with the tip, it was actually one of your threads about your experience with a portable canopy and I gave it a Blue Clickable Link for a title and moved it to our How to make money detailing cars (http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/how-make-money-detailing-cars/) forum group.

Here's the thread,

I bought a 10x10 for 50$ and returned it the next week. You will be shocked at how terribly crappy it is. Also it is definitely too small. Look to spend 200$ minimum +/-. I spent 200$ or 299$ on mine. Can't remember.

I'm going to have to go red back through that for a good laugh

Btw: I've been using my spikes (inserted into ground at opposing angles) almost every time since then. The one time I was stupid enough to leave them off again I was on the phone with Tad leaning against one of the posts when the same thing almost happened. I kept it down but I'm sure Tad heard some panick in my voice!

What's the definition of insane....

Ya, I'm going to have to go back and re-read that again as well. Yes, I definitely remember some panic in the voice that day. Amazing thing is, you didn't hang up the phone (we kinda talked through the whole ordeal). I was thinking the whole time about the "flying-shade canopy story", and what a funny story it was the first time I heard it. However I'm sure at the time it was happening it wasn't funny...

LOL, I almost dropped the phone trying to grab the canopy. I was quick this time! For a minute their I thought I was going to have to go but I hung on to the side I could and was lucky enough to have grabbed it so fast before the wind could get some more leverage on it. A second later or a pinch more wind and I would have been seriously shamed. 1 time is a mistake. 2 times is an argument for stupidity LOL.

The thing is I start early in the am and there isn't even a slight breeze. Sometimes I think I'm going to be done by a certain time (before the wind) so I don't peg it or tie it down. Then I start doing other stuff and before you know it its late enough in the afternoon the wind starts picking up. Nowadays If I don't peg first thing in the am I do it between 12 and 1 if I'm still working.

I have two 15'x10' canopys I got last year from someplace called the Hutshop. I believe the brand is Norstar? Anways they've been up all summer, I lost my big shade tree last year and needed to get some shade to detail in. I fill 6, 5 gallon buckets with water and bunge the legs of the canopy to them. I also tie down the top cover to steaks in the yard. They've been through several storms and windy conditions and never buged, but you have to make sure they are anchored good. I used to take them down after detailing on the weekends but that was taking too long to put up/take down all the time, so I decided to leave them up and hope they lasted. I think I paid around 400 each for them.

Here are a few pics...
