The Porter Cable XP kit i got comes with the counter weight for 5" Pads. I'm using the 5" backing plate with 6.5" pads and i noticed that at high speeds and with the pads off the backing plate runs smooth, fast and without vibration.

With the pads on however even if they are really centered i do notice some vibration and at higher speeds like 5 - 6 the vibration gets really intense.

So my main question is if i was using 5.5" pads would there be a significant drop in vibration? I've heard that they run more efficiently on the pc.

The problem with the pads and the vibration is that the weight is made not for polishing pads but for sanding pads. You see the PC is really made to be a sander not a polisher. You may notice a little less vibration with the smaller pad but there will always be a vibration.

PCXP is known to vibrate. Do yourself a favor and buy some 5.5" pads. You'll be glad you did.

Lighter thiner pads work better than ccs pads as well. I like the Hydro-Tech pads Lake Country Hydro-Tech 5.5 x 1.25 Inch Foam Pads, hydrotech foam buffing pads, dual action foam pads (http://www.autogeek.net/hydrotech-da-foam-pads.html) but the flat pads Lake Country Hydro-Tech 5.5 x 1.25 Inch Foam Pads, hydrotech foam buffing pads, dual action foam pads (http://www.autogeek.net/hydrotech-da-foam-pads.html) are nice too and a better price!
