I know when I did polish some metals, I had to criss-cross my sanding ( 320 from left to right. 400 fup and down, 600 left tor ight etc.)

Do you have to do the same with headlight?

thanks!

The primary reason to criss-cross your sanding directions is to,

Help insure UMR that means Uniform Material Removal
Prevent instilling ruts or deeper scratches
A visual indicator as to when the previous sanding marks have been removed

When it comes to sanding Headlights, it can't hurt to sand in a criss-cross pattern but because plastics are relatively soft and easy to buff sanding marks out of, plus they are thicker than for example an automotive clear coat, it's not as crucial a technique.

Basically sand till you've removed all the dead, hazy, flaky, yellowed plastic and then remove your sanding marks.
