I visit the Off-Topic section occasionally however I got to reading some of the content and there's some pretty interesting stuff going on here. We spend allot of time posting and reading all the great information from other members on detailing but I've always wondered what else you folks do..

Personally, I dabble in a few hobbies on the side and woodworking is one of them.

Last Christmas i bought my wife an antique dresser for the bedroom. It had been refinished, was in great shape and of course I bought it. It looked so good in the bedroom I decided to design and build one for myself.

The design was a bit challenging as I wanted to match as closely as possible all the features and nuances of the original but be able to build it in my shop. It's all solid red oak with the exception of the drawer sides, back, and bottoms which are hard maple. Here's how it went!

Lots of pieces!

Finishing

The Guns

The gun on the left is a Sharp siphon type automotive gun that I bought in 1977 for about $175.00. The Sharp was a great gun for it's time and laid down literally hundreds of gallons of color and clear coats over the years.

The gun on the right is a new design, gravity fed and operates with very low pressure due to it's design and doesn't put paint all over the place like the Sharp siphon type. The cost of the new gun was $79.00....33 years later...

Nice looking dresser and awesome shop. Thanks for sharing, I bet that working on those items is cheap therapy.

Looks great!

Sure wish I had a shop like yours - really like the planer and dust collection system you have - oh, and the table saw and fence!

I need to build a king size head board for our bed and a planer would come in handy; so would a good sliding compound miter saw (I hate making table saw cuts on long work pieces).

Wish I had the time and the money to really get into wood working. I've always enjoyed building things with wood since I was in shop class in middle school.

I occasionally build things for my house or do some trim work etc. But my skills are no where near yours!

Outside of working full time in sales and detailing on the side I rarely have much time to find another hobby but here are a few things I enjoy doing.

Cigars - I enjoy a good cigar on the weekends with an ice cold beer
Landscaping - enjoy working in the yard when I have the time
Soccer - use to be soccer up until a couple weeks ago I hurt my knee and decided to give it up.
