Has anyone used it for damp sanding?

Not me but I think it would work just fine... the key is to keep the sanding disc moving, don't stay in one place too long...

Meguiar's or 3M 3" discs with the right backing plate and optional interface pads should work with the Griot's Garage 3" Polisher.

I have all the 3" sanding pars listed in these two articles...

List of Sanding Discs at Autogeek.net (http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/wet-sanding-cutting-buffing/24851-list-sanding-discs-autogeek-net.html)

And if you go with 3M be sure to read this to get the correct hook and loop interface components...

The difference between 3M's Hookit and Hookit II Hook-N-Loop Interface Systems (http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/wet-sanding-cutting-buffing/26231-difference-between-3m-s-hookit-hookit-ii-hook-n-loop-interface-systems.html)
