Hey AG

I have few questions about large pads

8 in pads

How many do you need for each pad? since its a huge pad covering larger areas, I think 2 of each is enough?

7 in pads

Does it make sense to have 7 in & 8 in pads??

TIA

What type of buffer are you using with these? Rotary or DA?

No problem, I assume you're asking how many it will take to do a full car?

I'm going to say you would be OK with 2 pads for 8 inch, although, 8 inches is bigger than I've used. I use a DA mostly. Rotary you could go with an 8 inch though, and it would be fine. Seeing as you're only going to be using it on larger panels I think you'd be fine with just 2. But then again, you can never have too many pads :)

I assume you're going to be working with a rotary if you are thinking about 7 and 8 inch pads.?.. Because you are asking this question I will also assume you are new to this. When I was new to rotary polishing I had a hard time with 8 inch pads, especially 8" foam pads. I then chose to get 6" Edge 2000 pads that sell for a DA polisher and the Edge 2000 rotary adapter. The DA pads made the polisher much easier to control and they are still holding out 2 years later so I would say 1 or 2 of each would be fine.

In my opinion DA polishers are harder on pads than the rotary is. Now having a little more rotary experience, when I get a real neglected finish with real bad swirls and scratches I reach for the 8" pads because the job goes quicker with them.

How about you give us a little more background on your level of experience and what machines you are wanting to use so that we may better serve your informational needs?

Edit: when I started typing this there were no replies yet.

I have a makita and a flex light weight rotary. my level is newbie still. I have both 8 in LC ccs pads & 7 in LC ccs pads, Im looking to get rid of some inventory n make room for something esle. I don't know if theres a need for 8 in since 7 in is good enough. Thanks for all yous help

Mostly my 8" just sit in wait. If they were gone tomorrow I might never replace them. I Prefer smaller pads. I use a lot of 4" pads with the rotary for headlights and pillars and such.

Why didn't you start with a DA? Just curious. Not that either way is better or worse for newbies :)
