Ok, so since I've been back from out of town I havn't had a chance to really take any pictures of my first ever use of my new Griot's polisher. By the time I was done on Wednesday I was running around just to get packed up and on our way out the door. So tonight I rewashed the truck and there was good and bad. The good was it went from having this:

to having this:

The bad was the reflection is definately not crystal clear and sharp. I took a few pictures to hopefully capture what I mean. Sorry for the quality but I just remembered that I had that shop light downstairs this evening.

This one I purposly made blury just so you could see with a little better "clarity" of what I'm talking about with what looks like what I call honeycombing:

Any suggestions on getting rid of this? My process was M105/M205 with IPA wipe down in between each, then M21. Didn't have a chance to put any wax on. So I was thinking of taking the sealant off (need help with that too) and starting back with M205. Since I don't have any major spiderwebs, there shouldn't be any reason to go back to M105. I guess maybe this is considered marring? It's not quite holograms but I've never seen marring up close and personal. Thanks for all the help everyone!!

Looks to me like orange peel in the paint, which if it is, the only way I know to remove it is to sand it off.

If you're talking about the "waviness" or the paint's texture then yeah it's orange peel.
I don't know what else you are talking about because your paint looks to be free of scratches/swirls.

Yeah, I think the concensus is orange peel. So there isn't much I can do but sand it which isn't going to happen. Let me tell everyone here, I'm pretty  ticked off. I had such high anticipation to get my truck all shinny and glass like consistancy like I see everyone else's pictures posted here. I spent all this $$ to make my truck look like a diamond and this is what I get, a turd? So re-applying M205 won't help any so I might as well put my wax on and call it done. Such is my luck. Is there anything I can do/add to at least minimize this "effect" and is it even worth paying someone to go through the wet sanding process to eliminate this? I know there are a few local detailers on this forum, maybe someone nearby (kansas city area) could chime in with some help? I have this entire week off if anyone is availible. Anyways, I'm going to go outside and scream my head off now, wake the neighbors, tell the cops that I have orange peel and go to bed crying.

Don't be too upset, almost every factory paint job has orange peel and almost every picture you see here has orange peel but you cant see it ;)

Thanks Dewayne, still a little frustrated but I'm going to try to make the best of it. Now there is a layer of M21 on there now (sealant) however I wanted to go back over the truck with M205. Can I just start with M205 or do I need to remove the sealant first? If so what is the best method, IPA, Clay? Again, thank you.

I know you're upset and I don't mean to upset you further but this sentance made me LOL.

I suggest that you repeat the process on the rest of the truck and maybe see if you can get a salvage yard panel with orange peel on it and experiment with some 2000 grit wet sanding and see what you can do with it and read up on the art of wetsanding.

Is it factory paint or is it a repaint? I probably wouldn't suggest wetsanding a factory finish.

M205 will remove it if you don't feel like claying it again. Again, don't let it get you down as what you have already done looks awesome :dblthumb2:

As far as I know it's factory. Hasn't been repainted by me. Another member on another forum has suggested a few things and I will post results if they work. I'm not going to wetsand, just not trusting myself for that.

My car has some degree of orange peel, the look or depth of it has been somewhat reduced after a compounding with a rotary and a few polishings with a DA. Good luck, your hood is very glossy.

The wavy appearance around the perimeter of the light reflections is Orange Peel.

If you want some in-depth information on orange peel and how it can be removed or improved, see my comments in this thread...

What is Orange Peel and can I remove it with a Porter Cable DA Polisher? (http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/ask-expert-featuring-mike-phillips/26258-what-orange-peel-can-i-remove-porter-cable-da-polisher.html)

I've placed the above thread into the "Hot Topics" and made it a Sticky.

p.s.

I've placed the above orange peel picture into your gallery here on Autogeek (http://www.autogeekonline.net/gallery/showgallery.php/ppuser/27054/cat/500) since Photobucket photos have a way of disappearing over time...

Thanks Mike! I just don't have the $$ nor guts to pay someone/attempt to wet sand. So as it is I am just going to go back over it with M205 to get any little defects I might have missed last time, practice my technique a little more and call it good. I hear M21 isn't the best sealant to use so I will probably place an order for 85rd soon. I really do appreciate everyone's help and feedback on this. Just goes to show you that anymore it's quantanty over quality, to bad it has to be like that.

Looks like plain ol' factory orange peel to me. It comes on nearly every car under ~$150k so don't feel so bad. It's far more common on trucks, too. It can be sanded smooth, but factory paint jobs are so thin that I wouldn't consider it an option. Just learn to love it. :)

Yeah no worries, I did my truck and the wife was like 'damn look at the orange peel'. You couldn't notice it before, but now with no swirls it sticks out. Oh well, looks good from 5 ft away : )

I think after you polish a car to bring back the paint to optimum clarity for the specific vehicle, it just makes orange peel even more noticeable.
