I recently acquired a Black 2007 Infiniti G35S. As far as I know Nissan/Infiniti is known to have a "soft" clear coat finish.

Here are some pictures of the current condition of the paint. The car has been garaged almost all its life. Pictures were taken with my Droid cell phone.

I have a Porter Cable 7336 with Edge 2000 Pads.

I was considering Megs m105/m205 but I think that m105 will be too strong for my paint especially since these cars have a rather "soft" clear-coat.

Now I'm turning to Menzerna kit with SIP?

At first these were the steps I was going to follow until I did some more research.

1. ONR Spray Bottle - Spray Car to lift contamination
2. Wash Car with ONR
(Should I degrease before washing when applying Polish, Wax, etc.?)
3. Clay Bar with (ONR solution or QD)
4. Tape Vehicle
5. Meguiar's (http://www.autopia.org/forum/autolink.php?id=1117&script=showthread&forumid=134) 105 w/ Yellow or Green Edge 2000 Pad (Not Necessary/Too Much Cut?)
6. Meguair's 205 w/ Orange or Blue or White Edge 2000 Pad (Replace With Menzerna?)
7. Menzerna (http://www.autopia.org/forum/autolink.php?id=417&script=showthread&forumid=134) PO85RD w/ White Edge 2000 Pad
8. Glaze Needed?
9. Sealant -Collinite #845 or Klasse AIO (http://www.autopia.org/forum/autolink.php?id=1011&script=showthread&forumid=134) or Blackfire Wet Diamond
- By Hand
10. Wax - P21S Carnauba Wax or P21S 100% or Lusso Oro
- By Hand

Let me Know what you think!

Thanks,

Adam

Nissan has soft paint, but some of the newer Infinitis supposedly have a more scratch resistant finish. Either way, Menzerna SIP and Nano, or Megs 105 and 205 are great for polishing.

Skip the glaze unless really wanted, and try something like the new Menzerna Powerloc Sealant for protection.

Klasse AIO does not have that much shine.... Collonite is more a sealant/wax hybrid. As for BFWD - I have used it on my wife's car and mine and I love it! You could also get Autoglym HD from Walmart or Pepboys.

I wouldnt sub SIP for 205. I love 205 in my arsenal. You could possibly sub 105 for SIP but thats a toughie cuz I love them both. 105 has more cut and if it were me I would probably go with 105. I know least aggressive method first but if you are only compounding it this one time and you want to make sure you can get everything out then i would go with 105 followed up by 205. That is just my opinion, not saying its right or wrong...

Your quite right about Nissans having soft paint, and as you said, Infiniti started using a "self healing paint" on the 2009 models which just erased very minor marks when the paint was warmed by the sun etc.. It doesn't work all to well and Infiniti dropped the use of it on their 2010 cars. There seems to be problems with auto body shops having access to this healing paint which caused problems with body repairs. I'm the lucky owner of one of thse cars.Im the MAN

I'm leaning towards the Menz polishes. I don't think I need the heavy cut m105 gives.

Menzerna makes great polishes and I actually still prefer them in most situations. No wrong choice ...:props:

I'm back and forth between menzerna and megs.

A lot of people are saying that the 105/205 is much easier to use than the menz.

Decisions, decisons...

Would you consider somethin OTC that was Megs like a Scratch X or Ultimate Compound....I dont beleive they have as much cut as 105...just an idea...Also theres Pinnacle #1-4 (depending on how bad your swirls are) to possibly try..

I doubt that otc products will provide the performance I'm looking for.

Don't underestimate Ultimate Compound. It's a heck of a lot easier to use than M105--longer buffing time, minimal dusting. I've seen it compared to SIP in terms of cut. UC sometimes finishes down to LSP-ready, though I always follow-up with M205. In my limited experience, Ultimate Compound is an excellent performer and a great value.
