Hi All -

I am having the hood of my car repainted. I realize that I probably should wait about 30 days to apply a coat of wax to the repainted area....

Does this waiting period also apply to a Sealant as well ??? (Klasse HG sealant Glaze).

Thanks in advance for any input !

Feed back please

Yes, it applies to anything that won't let the paint "breathe" during the curing period.

The body shop should also be able to help you out with the wait and what you can use. I am not a painter but I hear that there are different processes they use to dry the paint, maybe we have a bodyshop guy that can chime in...

It would be best to ask for a copy of the tech sheet of the paint used. You will find the cure time there. Not all paints behave the same way, one example would be the mixture of the hardening agent with the thinning agent and the paint.

You can polish it after a couple of days, but I wouldn't touch it with anything else for at least 30 days no matter what, except for a wash and rinse...!!
Additives are for the getting the job out the door for the most part.

Wait time can vary depending on what brand clear the body shop uses, their mixture ratio and how the paint is cured. Some bodyshops will put a coat of cheap wax or glaze on after they cut and buff... sometimes this is to hide their shoddy polishing skills. I personally use Southern Polyurethanes clear and the manufacturer recommends 3 months for a DD and 6 months for a show car before applying a wax or sealant.

S.P.I. is great stuff. I use it myself on all my painting..
