Hey fellow detailers,

I need to do a heavy compound on a Chevy Avalanche and don't know what kind of clear hardness to expect. Is it similar to the newer Corvettes and Mustangs (medium to hard), or if it's as soft as let's say a Honda?

Thanks

Personally I think the best way to find out is to do some testing but this really only helps if you've worked on a lot of other cars and have gathered experience from working on a wide range of hard and soft paints.

My guess is that it would not be soft.

How are you going to tackle this project?

Type of machine?
Product choices?

Heheheh yeah, I was going to do the tape/multiple products test, but wanted to gather some info just out of curiosity.

Machine: Flex 3401

Products: will tape some areas and do a comparison between:
- White pad and a mix of 75% SIP / 25% PO106FF
- White pad and SIP
- Orange pad and SIP
- KB method (primed orange pad with M105)
- Purple wool with M105

If it's like on the previous Corvettes that I did in the past, considering it's black with decent scratches, the KB method will win.

On the other hand, if for some reason it's very soft, it might be a different story.

Thanks for the info!

The car had been brush-washed, so I had to do:
1x M105 on purple wool pad
1x M105 with KB method
1x SIP on white pad
1x PO106FF on black pad

The paint was trashed terribly. Nice turnaround. Thanks for sharing the pics.
