Stephens Opti-Seal Test

Well, here is my lil test on the Opti-Seal. After my Mazda 3s GT was washed, clayed with Four Star Ultimate Detailing Clay & Ultima Cleaning Lubricant Gel, I divided my Mazda in half (I hope you know what I mean).

On the Driver Side – I used the DP MaxWax and turned around to seal it with the Optimum Opti-Seal. After I put the Opti-Seal on, I let it sit for over 30 minutes while I worked the passenger side.

On the Passenger Side – I sprayed on the Optimum Opti-Seal 1st. After that, I let it stand on the paint for over 30 minutes. After the 30+ minutes time, I went ahead and toped it with the DP MaxWax.

Now, here is what I thought about doing this. Which way did I like the most? I liked using the MaxWax followed by the Opti-Seal. It was so much easier to do it this way. If you did it the Opti-Seal 1st, followed by the MaxWax, well, it was harder to put the MaxWax onto the paint.

So, from that, I will not place anything on my Mazda’s exterior except for washing my vehicle. After I drive out of the Valley this coming Friday, I will be taking it through the King Ranch area which means the front of my vehicle will be covered with BUGS!!!! Butterflies and all kind’s things. LOL If it rains, that is not going to happen for over a week down here, I will have to find a way to get my vehicle wet and take pictures of both sides of my Mazda. If you have any other recommendations, please let me know.

Thanks!!

Here is what my Mazda looked like BEFORE I did the work:

Nope. All pictures posted are correct. My brothers Ford F-150 was in the driveway where I could not get a side shot of my Mazda. When I have it back at his house tomorrow, I will turn the Mazda around and take a good side shot of it like the drivers side.

Sorry

That F-150 is one of my up coming projects. he he he

According to Optimum's Q&A FAQs this is all a moot point:

Q: Does Opti-seal lock in my Carnauba?

A: No. The solvents will dissolves carnauba floating it to the top of the
Opti-Seal. This fact holds true with any solvent based WOWA sealant.
The carnauba is not removed just repositioned.

Oh. LOL..... Way bad to me on that one. Thanks for stating that. Too bad there is not a way I could go into it and make that correction.

Again, thanks for making that statement.

Re: Stephens Opti-Seal Comparison

From: David Ghodoussi
To: Stephen R. Hollon, Jr

Dear Mr. Hollon:

Thank you for your email and for sharing the information about your test in progress. As we have stated on our website, whether you apply Opti-Seal over a wax or vice versa, you will get the same results with the wax going to the surface and Opti-Seal going to the paint. This has to do with the difference in surface tension between the wax and sealant. The solvents in Opti-Seal will dissolve the wax moving it to the surface while the sealant polymers migrate to the paint.

I look forward to hearing your test results. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance. Thanks again.

isn't 30 minutes insufficient cure time for opti-seal? Personally, I've only waited 12 hours ONCE between coats, but more often an hour or so. I've never used OOS on top but plenty of times as a base sealant.

It sure is a great sealant to have!

Well, Bird S**** got on my car again. :detailer: I took my Mazda to a local wash and did a HPW followed by spot-free. Here is what it looked like in the begining:

As you could tell, both sides came out looking the same. After I drove it for a little while, I touched both sides of the vehicle. Also, a friend of mine touched the same areas. We both felt the driver side of the Mazda felt the best, meaning, the paint was more slick on the driver side vs. the passenger side.

Kinda hard to sue. My sister-in-law is the main lawyer for this town and most of the other big cities down here in the Valley. lol

Well, it's one day short of a month since I started this comparison. I washed my Mazda almost a momth ago and it just gave us a good rain. As you will be able to see, there is no difference in what I did on the driver side and/or/vs. the passenger side.

My choice of doing the Opti-Seal is to use the wax 1st the finish it off with the Opti-Seal. It saves time and is much easier & smoother to do.

Again. It's all my $.02!! :iagree: Feed back please
