I think I am ready to venture into cleaning my engine. I am a bit nervous about using water under the hood. I have APC+ and Duragloss APC as well as a variety of brushes and a regular hose. I also have hyperdressing, all season dressing, meg tire shine, and natural shine.

A few questions

1.) With the 06 Pilot do I need to find the alternator and cover it or with a hose is it not as important.

2.) Am I going to need a degreaser and is there any OTC that I can pick up

I'd cover the alternator and fuse box (if it's under the hood anyway) just for peace of mind. Open filter elements go without saying.

Normally I find that D103@3:1 is plenty strong enough unless you've got some serious buildup. I'm pretty sure Auto Zone sells some sort of aerosol degreaser here, just can't remember the name. Calling around would be your best bet. Remember to thoroughly treat the rubber hoses after hitting them with D103. Multiple thin coats applied via MF if you've got the time.

Use some sort of sprayer on the hose. You want it to gently mist instead of flooding everything.
