on light metallics. I used 5.5" surbuf pads, 105, and Griot's ROP on my metallic silver z06. Finished perfect. Was micro marring there, or is my hard clear forgiving? If it was there, I could not see it for the life of me, in direct bright sunlight. I looked at every angle possible. I went over the test spot with a white pad and 205, an it's made no noticeable difference, IMO.

Isn't silver great :dblthumb2: It just hides so much that you don't have to worry as much.

Techniqually you can finish with anything. The question is, are you getting the best finish possible with just that?

As I said, I went over the area with M205 and a white pad and it made no discernible difference in the finish, IMO. If it were black, or any other dark color, I would think differently. It comes down to personal preference. :dblthumb2:

I don't like the way 205 finishes down personally. I was just answering the question posed in your thread title. My choice would be 106FA or wolfgang's FG(both the same) instead of 205.

Mark as well as you take care of that thing I bet it didn't even need the 105 :)

Thanks Dwayne! :dblthumb2:

The clear is extremely hard, so I need something aggressive for most defects.

I think 205 is a nice intermediate step between the defect removal polish and a finishing polish as fine as 85rd.

From that perspective silver is nice, but to me nothing looks as good as a black car when it's clean.

I don't use the #205...Most of the time I use XNT360 or Griot's one step sealant after #105....5.5 pads kick a$$ IMO...

085rd is also a nice option after 105 ...

Kind of like asking if a tree falls in the forest when no one is there does it make a sound?

Just because you think you cannot see the inclusions on silver paint when using M105 they are there. The fact is that when there is micro marring EVEN IF you think you cannot see it light is refracting and not reflecting thus, having a negative impact on the final overall appearance.
