I know how to fix it but I am curious as to a situation if this can happen. Did this mustang that was in terrible condition about a year ago. Did a full detail on the exterior. Just 3 stage 3M 3000 System on it. Well he told me that about 4-5 months after I did it that it started to dull. Then know its down to the point that all of the paint looks grayish(black paint) from oxidation. I have yet to see it and will this week but from the way he desribes it, its oxidation.

My question is could something in a detail 4-5 months after the fact cause the paint to start oxidizing almost a year later across the whole car?

A little run down on the car it was a car that has seen over 250 laps at Road Atlanta and has over 150k on it. So the paint was not in great shape to begin with.

Is this as single stage paint?

Single stage paints then to oxidize easily if exposed to the outdoors a lot and not regularly polished.

Clear coats can oxidize but not in the same manner a single stage paint oxidizes or as easily or quickly.

Its a baseboat clearcoat paint. He say's he garage's it alot but to me that cant be possible seeing as how he says its oxidized across the whole car. That to me seems like it would have sat outside almost 24/7 in the sun.

I did a original 3 stage buff on it almost 1 year ago on May 2nd. Then topped it with poorboys white wax so... Then I have done nothing more to the car since.

So any thoughts Mike on what could be causing this?

Is he running it through a car wash frequently? That can cause premature oxidation. See this thread (http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41602) for reference.
