View Full Version : Yellow Bug - Before and After

Executive Detail

Below are some before and after shots of the Bug. I did take some sun shots of the "before" finish, but, by the time I was done, the sun set far enough behind the house that the true shots wouldn't have mattered. Remembering to take the pics is one thing, teaching myself to take the 50/50 shots will be the next trick. I get too involved/focused that I don't think about it.

*Note*
This was only an exterior detail only

Products Used:

Wash/Dry

DP Xtreme Foam Shampoo (this stuff rocks)
Grit Guard/Bucket
Sheepskin wash mitt
Microfiber waffle/weave drying towel
*vehicle was clayed (med-grade) before being dried. I prefer using clean water mixed with the foam shampoo as a lubricant.

Polishing

Yellow CCS pad 6.5" pad/Flex 3401
"Left-over" med-cut polish...finishes down fine

Wax

WG Fuzion

Why did you use an yellow pad it is the most aggressive pad that Lake County makes.Couldn't you use a orange pad ??Not slamming your work just wondering how you finished down with only using a yellow pad. What was the make of the polish you used.

Beautiful results, I bet the owner was very impressed and happy!

This is problem for a lot of detailers, you finish and it's either dark out or getting dark and there's no sun overhead to get the "Sun Shot".

If you're a mobile detailer, it often times isn't practical to drive back to the car the next day while the paint is still pristine to get the full-on, sun shots.

Not only do you have to remember, but you have to stop everything you're doing and that cuts into your overall time; this is why I try to thank my fellow detailers for taking the time to get the before, process and after shots and then taking even more time to share them on the forum....

The power in the after shots is created in the before shots (http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/tricks-tips-techniques/21216-power-after-shots-created-before-shots.html)

I'm curious too. I thought I was brave machine polishing for the first time on black, but you have me beat! Looks good in the little pictures.

Thanks everybody. Sorry about the small pics. I uploaded them into PhotoBucket and didn't change the size. I didn't think it would make them as little as it did.

With respect to AG, I'm not mentioning the brand of polish. It's leftover stuff that I've had for a while and just using it up. It also wasn't meant to be a true correction. Knowing the product and the pad, I knew the end result wasn't gonna be a problem as a 1-step polish.

Thanks Mike! Yea, when she came out and had seen the end result, you would've swore she won a million bucks.

Getting in the habit of taking pics and taking the correct shots will be a challenge. Like you say, it does cut into the overall time. If I had a shop (and time to spare), it would definitely make it easier.

Like I said, knowing the pad/product combo helps a lot. It wasn't a true correction (which is where I would've followed it with finer pads). Plus when I first got introduced to the detailing industry (back in '96), I was taught using the high-speed rotary from a yellow pad down to white. Everything after that seemed like cake-work.

The experience I have with a yellow pad, it leaves a lot of marring. Maybe you can't really see it because of the color?
