Last 2 yrs I have polished my car and did okay. Good thing was there were a minimal amount of swirls and scratches. This yr is a little differnt, between a very bad winter and me claying the car plus using Valugard decontamination system (brought out a lot of swirls) I now have moderate swirls throughout the car. I have Menzerna 106, IP and 087MC with an array of Edge pads.

So, if I use IP with an aggressive yellow pad that will remove the swirls/scratches. Now what, do I just step down one, the pad or the polish or do I step down both? Never understood the best way to get rid of buffer trails. Use a medium cut pad, green with 106? Then I guess I move down to finishing pad, blue, and 087MC? Lastly, do you find you need to do 2 uses of the medium cut pad to really get rid of buffer trails. In others words, keep using the medium cut paf and 106 until all trails are gone.

Sorry for the long post but stopped polishing this past weekend to get some clarity. Was hoping to start again this weeked.

Thanks,
Howard

Been a long day of typing and formatting so I'm pretty much ready to push away from the keyboard for the day...

Before I go, I'd like to share these two threads with you, please read through them and consider the one thing they have in common that resulted in both people successfully removing the rotary buffer swirls...

What am I doing wrong - Holograms after using the rotary buffer (http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/ask-expert-featuring-mike-phillips/20433-what-am-i-doing-wrong-holograms.html)

4 Part Process Still Has Swirls? (http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/wet-sanding-cutting-buffing/21832-4-part-prosses-still-has-swirls.html)

It's not that you can't achieve a swirl free finish using only a rotary buffer, but it does take everything working in your favor including paint, pads, products, skill and experience.

Perfect!! Thanks for the links, can't wait till Saturday. And I completely agree with a staemnet you had in the first link. After working on your whole car, to later find holograms is frustrating (you used depressing). Luckily I stopped while doing my test area to learn more.
