I am looking for opinions on sun shades for my 2000 Silverado. My vehicle sits outside in a parking lot for four days at a time. I use a sun shade now but it has about had it. I am looking for some good options that are now available. I would like it:

Easy to store.
Easy put up and take down.
Keep all UV and harmful things out.
Good fit in the window.

Anyone have any good options to help combat this GA heat?

Wal-Mart or your local auto parts should have regular sun shades. Autogeek carries custom fit sun shades for $59.99 if you're willing to pay that much for a sun shade.

I would think the easiest to both store and put up/take down would be the type that you mount by the window and pull the retracting shade across the window (that make sense?) If you don't want to mount anything I think the pop up ones would be the easiest, they are pretty compact. Best performance would probably the custom ones from AG that Ciera linked to

Here's the Covercraft that is 3 yrs old and parked outside 365 days a year and still in excellent condition.

I also own a covercraft, about 4months now. It's sturdy and i can tell it will last very long. Mine has a bunch of shoe marks because I throw it in the back seat floor, but still does a great job blocking the sun :).

I used a magic shade before, but black edging melted when exposed to heat and black smears on whatever it touched; some sun shield that is.

Amen to that. For every car I've owned since 1999 I buy one of these first thing. The one from my 1999 Integra is still in use by another friend who took it when I sold the car. Those things are immortal and nearly indestructible as long as you take care of them. I don't know any $6 sunshade that will last that long and look as good.

Let's not forget about effectiveness. You want your sunshade to block the sun, obviously, but what about the heat and UV rays? Just because it blocks the sun doesn't mean it blocks anything else. There is an incredible difference between the amount of heat the UVS100 blocks compared to any other sunshade. They are custom made to fit your windshield precisely and they leave very little space for any light or radiation to get through.

The really nice thing about that for me is that I can put the sunshade up when I'm parked in a parking garage and it absolutely eliminates the window shoppers. Without any light coming in through the windshield, the tint on my windows is impossible to see into. That is only 20% tint too, so it isn't like you have to have limo tint to accomplish that. I like having it up at night for the same reason. It just keeps people from seeing into your car.

Picture time. :)

Here is an example of the inability to window shop.

Sorry about this one. I had used it to photoshop some different wheels I was looking at and I don't seem to have the original uploaded. It shows the amount of light blocked again though. I'm just really a fan of any sunshade that can give my interior privacy when it is up. Someone would stand out trying to look in there.

The UVS100 is ONLY worth it if you plan on keeping your car for a couple years. If you are the type who never registers the same car twice, then it is probably a little spendy. However, considering it is only like $60 bucks, it really isn't that expensive. You can spend a lot more on less valuable things. And when you sell your car I would wager you could still sell your sunshade for $40 or $50 bucks on Ebay. I bought one on ebay for $35 that actually had some cracks in the seams and I still felt I got a bargain.

If that isn't a strong enough endorsement of a product, then I don't know what is. :) Definitely look at getting one. It will be the best sunshade you ever purchase and you will love the difference it makes to the security and comfort of your vehicle.

I just got a UVS100 for the S2000. My windows aren't even tinted and it's hard to see inside in broad daylight. Installs and folds up easily, good fitment, and keeps the interior nice and cool. No complaints here.

I have a 2-piece shade for my F-150. I think is the x-large size and fills my front window pretty good. It is one of those "pop-up, spring loaded" devices, so theoretically you can fold it up into a small package and slip it into the seat back pocket. However, I usually end up fighting with it for a few minutes before giving up and throwing it into the back seat. Damn spring loaded thingies....

If you are still looking for a good sunshade option you may consider one from Gethercovered.com These cover three windows not just one. No springs and will have you covered in the winter time too if that is an issue.

I'll second this one. Its solid, so its a little bulky and that might bother some, but that also makes it really easy to handle and put up and down. I have had mine for 3+ years and its still holding up relatively well.

This is the best sun shade period case closed and worth every penny. I was of that same mind set as noted above about that retailer and the cheap cost of their sunshades and used one for a while. Then I took a shot on one of these for my new Nissan Rogue last year. I live in Florida " The Sunshine State" need I say more. It's a year old now and like brand new. These are custom fit to your vehicle. The inside is the plastic corrugated you see on USPS mail trays. They are solid and worth every penny. Takes literally seconds to place in window. Some things are worth the money and this is one of them.I bought them for my wife and daughter too.
