Plastic trim

OK new here and had been poking around a bit and it looks like there is a wealth of knowledge and information to be had here!

First how do I keep the wax from turning my trim gray. Can I just use painters tape or will the buffer cut through it.

Second we bought our Daughter a 2001 Volvo S-80 with 43K on the clock but it looks like the car was always kept outside as the gray plastic looks faded. Is there someway to restore it back to its original color? Also the drivers seat seems to have some heavy wear on the lower left back bluster. The previous owner was a Police officer and this looks like it is from his belt maybe. The rest of the seat looks like new. Is there anyway to dye the seat or something else I can do to fix it?

Get a clay that doesn't turn trim white or tape it off.

Poorboy's Trim Restorer (http://www.autogeek.net/pbtr16.html) works great for bringing the shine back to the trim.

Wow thanks for the fast replies, I did use Black Back but it quickly faded so that is why I'm here.

So I think it's time to stop buying from Auto Zone and start using some quality products. I have never used clay before but I think its in my future. My vehicles get waxed in the spring and fall along with cleaning the interior. I looked at the Porta Cable 7425 XP polisher and think I might pick one up in the next couple weeks.

Plastic doesn't absorb very well so most dressings are topical. Also, there is no permanent fix for fading plastic, best thing to do is find a dressing you like and apply it on a regular basis. "Find something you like and use it often" (See my Sig Line)

Black Back is not the same as Black Wow(BW). I'm the manufacturer of it (BW) just to be clear.

If you don't clean off the stained trim, no matter what product you apply, it will fade eventually and no longer mask the stains. The only permanent solution is to remove the stains, then dress/condition/restore the trim. You can use two products or a single one with both features.

You can clean the trim with various vinyl/trim cleaners. BW has cleaners built in to make it easier to remove the stains, most trim products don't clean. You still need a stiff bristle brush like a detailing toothbrush or the edge of a rag in conjunction with the BW to remove the stains. In addition to BW, PreWow is the follow up product to BW and will also be available through Autogeek that will make removing stains a breeze but it's still in development.

i just bought black wow recently. and its fantastic i must say !!!! and the smell. makes it a pleasure to use... great sent..:xyxthumbs:

I have had great success from a suggestion from someone on this site. Use a solvent/adhesive remover (I use 3M general purpose adhesive remover) with a terry clothe. I do a few wipe down of that. It should remove jsut about everything and what id doesn't I pull out a Vinyl eraser. It sheds a bit, but works like a charm for some reason.

I then go over it with 303 Protectant. My car has 91K on it with the stock cowl panel and it still looks brand new.

You have to be quick with it though. I do not suggest directly applying it to the area. I have not tested this on weather stripping and door trim. I know for a fact that it works on the pebbly trim normally on cowl panels.

I have ordered Megs Ultimate Protectant from AG and will try it next week. I use Griots Rubber Cleaner on weather stripping and OPC on plastic to prep. So far my favorite trim product is Ultima Tire & Trim Resttorer.

So far I've used Back to Black and Meg's Ultimate Protection. The Back to Black looked great but stayed slick as snot for weeks. Used it on my black plastic truck bed cover and my hands would slip whenever I touched it. I also think the dust loved it as well. The Meg's really impressed me so far. Definitely not as greasy feeling.
